I think you should tell them, I mean if they want you to feel a bit better, they would use the right name/pronouns and treat you as a girl. and if they would understand that this and wearing girls' clothes and stuff makes you comfortable and they would accept it, I don't think it would be too awkward, and if it would, well, all of us are awkward, aren't we? :)

If you feel that would make you happier and feel more comfortable i would sit down with your parents and explain that to them. Ask that they refer to you with female pronouns, buy you the clothes you'd feel more comfortable in. It's not only a transitional period for you but for them as well, and things do take time. Life is full of awkward moments and it wouldn't be life if there weren't a few along the way. The ultimate goal is for you to feel comfortable and free, and if that's what will make you feel more free, my suggestion is talk to them about it.

Congrats on that huge step of coming out to your family. This is probably something really new for parents to understand, and the more you let them know what makes you comfortable, probably the less awkward this new normal is going to become for your family. Wouldn't it be great if we had a national clothing exchange sitefor all of us and our buddies transitioning???!I hope you have a great time trying new clothes and looks at home to see what looks and feels best. Maybe one of the things you can ask parents for is help with learning about makeup and clothing choices. Maybe you could even go to Goodwill or a different second hand store and try on some different styles for mom to give you her best advice on what feels and looks best.May take a little while for family to realize you are still you and they don't lose their son as the other parts as you emerge as their daughter. Probably a little stressful for everyone, but exciting too. Hard to be patient with this, but I guess this is a lot of new learning for everyone.
