So basically it relates to the DSM-V and Standards of Care. In order to be diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria, you have to be seen by a Licensed mental health professional. For hormones you need 1 letter from a LMHP, and for surgery you need 2 from different LMHP's. This would be the therapist part. Long and short their job is to do what they do. Try to sort through what is going on with you, validate a diagnosis and verify there isn't other things causing this to happen. So case in point, Say a boy was habitually raped by his father and his father basically treated him as a girl and so on, there's the possibility that person may seek transition because of the trauma, in reality its the trauma that needs to be resolved. An older case was athletes who couldn't cut it in the mens category would often seek transition to compete against the women instead. They will go through and figure out if its because you ARE dysphoric or that maybe there is something else going on. Generally speaking this can take anywhere from 4months on. about 8 sessions as most start at bi monthly. From there you will get the letter and then you have to see out a medical doctor to administer the medications.

I went to a gender therapist because I thought that’s what you’re supposed to do right? Well, I met with her and she said due to my mature age and confidence in my true gender, I’d have no problem transitioning as soon as I want. The next meeting we’ll go through a gender history. Potentially she will write a letter to local doc for hormones, blood work, etc. and I’m on my way to my second puberty.
I believe it’s all in your conviction and age.
I went in there and played my winning hand and she really had no choice but to hand over the winnings.
The hardest part for me will be coming out to my massive family and convincing my wife that I’m not going to turn into some roided our asshole that the stereotypical high testosterone man portrays.
