I don't want this to come across the wrong way -- it's not meant in a mean way, but you don't really "become" transgender...it's just who you are. It's not like deciding to grow you hair out or just choosing to wear a binder -- it's deeper than that. If this is a new feeling for you I suggest you do more research and really learn more about what being transgender really is. I don't know how to help you...but how long have you been feeling like a guy? Starting hormones takes a long time, and is a very serious thing. Not saying you aren't trans, I don't know your situation, but make sure you're not jumping into things too quickly. Start slowly -- start going by different pronouns, socially transition...and take it easy. Hormones and surgery are things that happen usually years after you socially transition.

Whatever is safe for you is whats best. If not being able to be yourself causes you more anxiety and depression and dysmorphia than the anxiety from not being accepted by your father than I personally think you should be who you want to be around him. But if telling your father will jeopardize your personal safety you should wait until you are in an environment without that threat

Its simple. Educate him on what it means. Firstly you don't "Become" Transgender. Its not something that is a choice, the choice is to be who you are. So you need to educate yourself on all the ins and outs, experiences and what hoops you have to go through and then you can educate him because most people even those in the trans grouping are horribly under educated in what it really means and what they will face
