So last night I went to therapy. We talked about little things that I am looking forward to like dressing in the right clothes and just general stuff. But at one point I had mentioned the Jason Collins story, the first openly gay athlete for those that don't know. And she wondered if there were any kind of like support groups in my area. And she even considered doing her own. I'm her only transgender at the moment, but she said she also has like 5-6 gay/lesbian clients as well. She asked me if I would be interested. I said yeah, but I'm also really shy.

So I got to thinking about it, and yeah I'd really like to go just to have a chance to meet new people and possibly gain a friend who could really help me come out. But I'm also worried about the confidentiality.

Do any of you go to like meetings like this? Or what would you do if there were these like sort of counseling groups by you?

I go to a support group meeting here in NJ called True selves, as for as I know of, we are the only active group within the LGBTQ community, we meet in person every 3rthd of the month of Sunday. When going to a support group meeting, you can relax to be your true self. There might be a variety of age groups, and several new category titles, that are beyond the LGBTQ umbrella, and listen to their life stories, as well as interacting with others in person, and not just over the internet. A chance to meet new friends, go to picnics places with them that are LGBTQ friendly. Some people that are new to the group, might be a little shy, and so they will need a little more time to get to know everyone, and then maybe come out and talk among the group. What are the benefits of a group meeting? 1. To help you threw transition. 2. That's a thing I forget to mention. If she were to start up this group, well then it would be really neat to be one of the first there. I do kinda like have that bit of seniority and experience. That lessons my shyness barrier. Knowing that you have a bit more knowledge and that you can help somebody is a great feeling for me.

She said she'd ask the others what they all thought and see how it goes from there. But quite possibly I may make the journey to join that group. I understand the others may all be like 50-60 years old or something, but maybe there will be people my own age I can really hang out with and just be friends with.
