So I am going to make some assumptions that will play into my advice, first is that you are over 18, secondly that you are in the USA. Obviously if one of those are not true that makes things change a bit. So Mentally you have this group which may be able to offer you some support. Youre going to have to get a therapist eventually so that will also be a source of support. I am sure you will end up making friends relatively quickly once you get your bearings. Financially you are only partially right. You will have to foot a lot on your own, There's no two ways about it so work will be needed, however if you have any form of health insurance it likely covers therapy, hormones, so on at least in part if not fully. So in that you have some assistance. Now there are some variations in that due to states that did not partake in the ACA so you would have to check where you live. As far as knowing what you are doing, you need to sit down and think long and hard about that. What you want how to get there and so on. It is not a lightswitch and takes a large time investment and financial. Planning ahead helps. Now far as the binder and all. I pose this question to you? What makes a man a man? Ive met men with bigger boobs than some women, why are they men? Because there is an innate knowledge within them that they are a man. it is unwavering, and it radiates. You need to learn to develop that within you. If you don't, you will be a woman wearing men's clothing at best. This is completely 100% internal and don't cost you a penny. You can do it now and get to work on it cause It takes a while. If you can do that while you work to the job and money and therapy and all that you will be a long stride further along than most. In the end this is a serious choice that once you reach a point there isn't really a path back (bout the time you hit surgical stuff) so you want to be sure. sorry, im not against you wanting to transition to a dude, its just that i dont think many of you understand that Testosterone is the foulest hormone on the planet, ITcan take a kind and and caring person and transform them into agressive, self serving , ********'s sure it can make you stronger and tougher but is that what you truly want? You dont need that to love a woman, Sorry, im very sorry, it's just sometimes i dont think some females don't understand what they are giving up, and getting themselves into.if you want to feel less and think more about thing then maybe your right. but love will never mean the same to you, neither will sex, you by nature of testestosterone will become more interested in pleasing your sexual needs then thinking of love. it will make you horny and agressive, love visual stimuli AKA porn. then there is the man code thing, how you act around other men. a lot to learn, just like i had to learn womanhood. but hanging with the wrong dudes can get you hurt. so heshes you should think on this, you can go pan sexual, or Butch, but testosterone ? read about it first, know what that crap does, there are many women and men also sexually abused by MEN with to much of that crap. and its ALWAYS men doing the dirty deed. so you want to join their group still GOOD LUCK , I switched sides and very glad i did.

Hi, there's a lot of names to choose from but I'm in agreement with Annie. T is very powerful. How about take one step at a time. Focus on school, a education and a job before anything else. Give yourself some time to process and clear your head and in the mean time talk with a therapist to help. To transition, be on hormones, your going to need money. You have to be financially secured, its not cheap. Insurance helps but your still going to need cash. I could also tell you that transitioning is not easy and you'll run into a lot of discrimination and judgement. Best wishes to you, I hope this will help you.

i very sorry for saying what i did, my judgement may be clouded because i hate testosterone so much. i'm a victim of abuse , done by a man , that abuse destroyed my early life to present, the end results was i had to go through state mandadated treatment, i was in with the scum of the earth all males, jacked on testosterone, after that it left a lasting memory , i got gender dysphoria as a result. now i'm a woman, much much kinder, and a hell of a lot better. i have now lived in both worlds on their terms on their hormones. i see what estergen does, and testosterone. God, my judgment is clouded, hate to see you go to the dark side, but if thats your chose i shoud back you so i will. just believe your making a big terriblemistake but that coose is yours and yours alone, but please before you take that shit make sure you understand what your getting your self into.

Hi. I'm Emil. I'm a non-binary trans man . I'm beginning my transition later in life. I have some different perspectives than some of the other commenters. First, congrats on your haircut. Thats awesome! I know its rough to be pre-transition and with unsupportive folks. Some suggestion for you that have worked for me are:
*If you can't buy a binder, wearing two sports bras or one compression bra is a great alternative.
*Plaid shirts are every trans guys best friend.
*Tumblr and facebook has some great groups and pages, especially for young people. Names are a common theme there.
Also, once you turn 18, I would check into planned parenthood in your area or reach out to any LGBT groups in your area or state to see if they offer T via informed consent. That way, there is no lengthy process of seeing a gender therapist and going through all the hoops.
