Hi! My name is Anna. This is the first time I've every done something like this so, sorry if it is typed poorly. About a few months ago, my best friend came out gay. Sadly, he didn't get the respones he really wanted. Our friends were trying our best to be supportive but it seemed like nothing would really make anything better. Once things, after, a while started to get a little better, she came out trans. This was suprising to everyone, and no one knew how to take it. Me myself, is very lost when it comes to LGBT. I really want to be a good friend but is hard to be. Is there any advice that could help?

It seems like you are already doing a wonderful job as a friend. Supportive and trying to learn about the issues. Unfortunately, sometimes that's all you can do as a friend. Make sure she knows that you accept her as she is, and be there if she needs to talk; I would also suggest that you get familiar with the terminology. Would probably be really reassuring to her since it would show that you care.

Unfortunately there are no magic "fix-it" buttons for friends to press for each other other, and the best you can do, the best any friend can do is simply be there.

Your friend needs to be there and be militant on her behalf when others are disrespectful. Nip it in the bud when she's not around, so everyone is on the same page when she is around. I know you are young but this is you chance to put on your big girl panties and do something important. Keep being the kind of friend everybody wants to have on their side. Someone who's open, accepting, loyal and true.
