First Father's Day since coming out

Well today was the first father's day since I came out to my wife and girls and they weren't sure how to really take it and even asked if this was a father's day or mothers day. I told them that I will always be their gather and we can celebrate it as such. Anyone else have stuff like this happen? My wife even made a comment that it was hard to get Marsha anything, she did get Marsha some stuff for my birthday and it made me feel really good! This has all been a learning experience for all of us, just sometimes I wonder if I am wanting to do the right thing :(

well I cannot say I have had that problem really. I do not have children of my own, but have served as a "Fatherish" figure to one kid from a past girlfriend. Her daughter calls me on mothers day and wishes me that :P we just ignore fathers day. As for you questioning if you are making the right move.. Personally I would be more concerned if you didn't. There is a saying I got in a psych class of "the easiest way to know you are sane is if you question your sanity, Those who have lost it never seem to question." I think that saying can apply to any large change. If you don't at some point step back and think "is this really the right thing" then I would be more worried than if you are questioning. All you are doing is a sanity check against yourself. So do question from time to time, its the only way you will ever find the answer you need.

I certainly haven't been in the same position. However, I think you put it perfectly by saying that its all been a learning experience. There is certainly no right or wrong way to deal with that stuff and it is different for everyone. As it has already be mentioned, Its good that you are questioning yourself. You seem like your giving it a 100% and you care about your family. Its also great to hear that you arn't offended by the fact that your family is asking questions and your open to answering them. I hope everything works out, I think you make a great mother.

My good friend just finished her transition. No Father's Day celebration that I can remember since then. I mean when she came out years ago. Her daughter calls her Poppy. How cute is that.. From Papa to Poppy.
