I had the same problem and sometimes still do, but you have to have a thick skin when you are going through this. There are a huge number of stupid and ignorant fools in this world, most of them in the united states and as such you will see people who don't get it or flat our refuse to try. How I more or less handled it was I stopped watching TV or I should say I stopped watching American TV that deals with any thing real world. I will watch Japanese TV and occasionally Finnish TV shows dealing with real life, but if its American TV it is definite fake stuff. So X Files, Game of Thrones, Stargate so on, things that are clearly not real life. They tend to avoid the topic pretty heavily and focus on the scifi fantasy aspect. I avoid the news, anything that would basically show the ignorance of humanity. I want no part of it. I assume when I meet people they are good people and will understand, sometimes they do sometimes they don't and if the don't, I no longer deal with them. I don't need them in my life. I don't need those TV shows that cant do it right in my life, or the ignorant people commenting on the news or to articles. I simply have washed my hands of it.

you definitely are not when it comes to the trans issue, nor others. People out there in the world love to put people down, its like a prime pastime. We have created so much hate that its all we know anymore. before coming here I read an article about a man who had a car accident, then shot himself.... you would not believe the horrid comments people would make. So yeah you aren't alone. For those of us who still have some humanity left in us it can be disheartening to see how far from it so many others have fallen.

Yes, it is hard to be marginalized. It is undeserved and sad, and such a loss to the people who are because of this missing such wonderful folks as I have found transgender folks to be.

Our challange, very much like Martin Luther King described regarding race is to rise to the challange of elevating ourselves by our character.

Sweet Sister, I am a trans man and waited 58 years to transition because of the dangers of other people's ignorance and the fear that generated. What a privilege it is to have contact with people who are souls as brave and beautiful as we come to be by engaging in this struggle. There will always be ignorant people in our lives, but we have a choice to focus on the positive people who we love deservedly and who love us deservedly. Rise to that choice!

I’ve revently discovered about myself that I really don’t like my genitals and wish I could just snap my fingers and have a penis instead of a vagina. Just always know there are tons of people who do accept you and will encourage you to be you! Sure there’s going to be close minded people who just don’t understand. Bit always think of the people in this community that love you. I hope this helped

The support given on this post has done more than some people might think. I've very few friends in real life and I have no other people in my immediate life who are like myself. So hearing these things from fellow trans people is extremely comforting.

I am a mom of a daughter who is on this journey. I look back at some of the previous portrayals of transgender people in TV shows and it was terrible. I didn't realize it at the time because I didn't know any different. It is getting better, it is terribly slow and frustrating, but it is getting better. The more we can help bring acceptance and educate people the better it will continue to get.
When it seems overwhelming surround yourself with the people who love you for you and recharge yourself for the battles ahead.
