After a year of concealed dysphoria, I have decided to come out as trans to my parents. I have made a letter with careful thought and will hopefully be giving it to them this weekend (10-21). I'm really excited because if they take it well then I can get my hair cut the way I want it FINALLY and can go by my preffered pronouns. But if they don't take it well I will be seen as a joke to them and will have to live with them knowing and potentially hating this part of me. I really need to come out and I'm so close to doing it, I just don't know if I should. I am on ok terms with my parents after a while of constant fighting and I don't want to go back to that because it was hell.I also don't want them to send me to a mental hospital or christian camp to "fix" me.

I can't tell you. Cause it is such a big decision with huge consequences both ways. I chose to hide and not transition for my life to not make it hard, but had I been younger and had more things going right at the time, like a decent job and such, I think I may have chosen differently. I will never know now. Just consider everything and spend a lot of time in quiet reflection. Take the time you need for the answer to be clear for you.
I also chose never to tell my parents, but I think they both always knew and i liked that. How do you feel they will take it?

I don't know where you live however I can say the conversion camps are now considered abuse in the USA and all of them were to be shut down. So I don't think that is the case, as for mental hospital that is the best possible thing you could hope for if they send you away. The doctors will find you quite sane and diagnose you with Dysphoria and send you home, at that point your parents can no longer do anything to you what so ever. I don't know what the fights were about so I cant say much there, but honestly if your heart is bursting to tell them, odds are its the right answer. your intuition and instincts are what will tell you if its right or wrong, not your brain. I wish you luck in telling them and I hope they realize that blood is thicker than any other consideration. Youre their child
