So i got an amazing button that says "my pronouns are he/him/his" and i am afraid to wear it because i might upset alot of my family and they might throw it away or yell at me. My father is great i love him but he isn't ok with me being a boy because he thinks that you are your birth gender and he believs that pink is a girl color and that boys can not where lipstick. And my mom um current situation neutral she doesn't really pay attention anymore but i know she will be angry with the button and im scared. plz help me!!!!


also should i go with the name oliver or alex. Brother status: still wants to be a girl :)

So right now there's a lot of people who claim that Birth Sex (need to be specific with that) applies to ones gender as well and they are always aligned, and they aren't. Try teaching him the difference between SEX (ones chromosomes), Gender (ones internal mental representation of their sex), and preference( who they share their bed with) they are very distinct and are not interchangeable. This is why there is so much confusion when it comes to trans people... Sex and Gender are very different.
As for the button, that's a hard one. It is all well and good to be out and proud, but personally to me its another to flaunt it. I think you are right that wearing that is going to draw attention and quite probably a lot of it will be negative. Remember we have a political system right now that is doing nothing but breeding hatred against us. Laying low and just trying to blend may be the best option. Hang it in your room and or wear it at home but I wouldn't wear it out and about. That's my personal opinion.

Sadly, I have to agree about having to be cautious. It's a shame the world can't be more like little kids. Most of them are just fine with whatever comes their way. Once society changes their focus then the hate seems to set in. People are just not accepting if you fall out of the norm. Do what makes you feel right but be aware of the political climate that truly exists. Be you, but if you want to have less conflict then it seems much better to try to blend in than stand out. Just my opinion. Love and faith.
