Hello. Its common for children with TS to not accept they have it.. and its very common for them to tic more when school begins because they are no longer in their comfort zones and they have too much stress. Stress will make tics worse. My daughter went through this and we started to make our own videos.. we have youtube videos if you want to check them out.. just type in jshear100 : ) We started them to help others.

I can get him to watch 1, maybe 1 1/2, but the ADHD makes it difficult for him to stay interested for any length of time. I never force him to, I just ask if he wants to watch. I have tried to get him to make videos, but he is camera shy. I also have videos on youtube, but he is usually unaware that I am recording him.

I'm 17 and was just diagnosed several weeks ago with TS. I've never had this problem with my tics. TS can be embarrassing, but it's serves as a jerk filter for me. It helps me know that I have people around me to support me. Also, it's better to let the tics out rather than holding them in. If he's embarrassed, try finding ways to make the motor tics look like normal movements, but there isn't much you can do for vocal tics.

As for Youtube, I recommend Jaydy11's channel. I Have Tourettes, but Tourettes Doesn't Have Me and Front of the Class are also great movies :D

My son is 10. He recently watched front of the class. I have no idea if it really helped but does give a positive look on things. My son did enjoy the movie.

Hello! I'm 21 was just recently diagnosed with a tic disorder, but have apparently been dealing with it a little while. Others have already mentioned that stress makes the tics worse, but I find that being really engaged and focused on something greatly decreases mine. I'm an art student and find that when I'm in the process of making art, or even discussing my art, I either barely tic or don't tic at all during that time period. If he's interested in the fine arts, or sports, or something really active like that, maybe one of those classes could be a time of relief from the tics for him?

Well, he was suspended from school for the rest of the week today. It started out with him yelling "boobies!". Then he started smacking other kids on the butt and hit a couple of boys in their privates all the while laughing hysterically. And when I bring him home and punish him he will laugh hysterically then too. It's like he's having some sort of meltdown. I keep getting this IEP takes time line, both last year and this. I need better doctors and better schools. UHG! I just don't know what to do anymore. I can't beat the crap out of him (not that I want to, but it has been suggested on more than one occasion) and nothing else is working. It's SO frustrating!

My 14yr old step son has just been diagnosed with TS and its so stressful. His eye blinks constantly and his face has started to spasm. This makes me sad as I dont want him to be teased in school and were hoping to put him on medication this week. He also has ADHD and school is very difficult for him so homework is a killer.

Do any of your children pick their butts and grab their privates all the time? This is the part that is driving me insane. Everytime he stands up or walks his hand is either in his butt or pulling on himself. I dont know if I can say something to him because when I do he says he can't help it.

My son does do that. We don't punish or ridicule, but when he does this, we say, "pockets" and he'll put his hands in his pockets instead.
