My 7 year old son has been on Tenex for about 6 months now, he takes 1mg in the am and 1 mg before bed. It makes him tired for sure but not so much that he is a zombie. It was worse the first 2 weeks(I almost took him off it he was so tired) and when we upped the does but now he is fine especially if he takes a short nap after school. His tics weren't that bad when we started it, It was mostly for the ADHD which has helped a lot in impulse control and getting him to focus a little better at school and with homework. He has still had tics since being on it but no major ones. Right now he hasn't been having any that I can tell for a few months. I don't know if that is due to the meds or he is just having a good spell but either way I feel it has really helped him, enough that if I give him his night dose too late or forget he can tell and will ask me for it, so he feels a difference. I really appreciate your reply. My 17 year old son has terrible vocal tics, in fact they are non stop at the moment. He also has terrible trouble concentrating and is impulsive and can be very hypey at times. We have had the whole medication merry go round, but have found the side effect of tic medication to be to much to handle. I've read some good things about tenex, but we live in Australia and cannot get it here. Perhaps we might be able to order it online. I'm particularly interested in Adults who might take this medication and how it has helped them. I'm glad you've had success with this med for your son. Did you notice his tics go down after he started to Tenex??

We used Tenex for a son with: ADD, Tourettes, Night terrors and OCD. His tics came and went. It didn't seem to help him. We found new Neuro and he put him on intuniv, which seems to be working better. We also use supplements which has helped greatly.

thanks for your reply. I'm glad the Intuniv is helping your son. It is the same as tenex, but longer acting I believe. Does it make your son tired and exhausted. Has it done a good job at controlling his tics.?? for example, did you see a great decrease with the Intuniv??
I've had my son on a great many medications, but he couldn't tolerate the side effects. We have also used and are still using supplements, but they haven't helped either, and believe me I've used them all. Of late we have started a product called Cell Food, now whilst it hasn't done anything for his tics, I have noticed an increase in his ability to function and he says he is feeling much better on it. I've started taking it myself and I also am noticing an increase in energy. At present Intuniv and tenex are not available in Australia, but I may be able to order it online.

Yes you are right, the Intuniv is the same as tenex. We have tried numerous things for our son's tics. The biggest help has been using the Bontech supplements http://www.bonniegr.com/. We started them in June and his tics stopped 2 days later. This was a kid who was really struggling with friends and school because of the tics. He just literally stopped the tics and they have not been back. We are amazed by the whole thing. He has really changed, much more confident. They may not work for everybody, but they worked for us and it can't hurt to try, that was our thinking. As for Tenex helping with tics, I'd say it really wasn't that much of a help, but then you might have a different result. Please feel free to ask any more questions. I check in from time to time.
