First off I want to make it clear that I do not have Tourette Syndrome. I am a Child and Youth Care worker who works in a disability group home with a boy who was diagnosed at a young age with Tourette Syndrome. I want to learn more about this disorder so I can better support him but I am feeling overwhelmed. I am getting all these different accounts of his symptoms and behaviors from his family, school, medical professions and than there is the kid I see. None of it really seems to match up and I feel like this kid is slipping through my fingers. So what I really want to know is if it would be alright if I ask the members of this group some questions? And or suggest resources/reading material that could be helpful?

Tics come in many different shapes and sizes....do you know who diagnosed him? Maybe he should be reevaluated by a neurologist? What isn't adding up to you? Does he tic? Verbally too? Do you know what tics look like, meaning do you know what to look for? I will help, if I can. :)

Now that I have done some more research I am starting to recognize his unique ticks. He has changed schools and that has been a big help. The accounts from his new school match up way better to the kid I know. I am still struggling though to understand what behaviors he has control and which ones he doesn't and how to consequence him.
