Hello I wanted to ask your opinion on this: can tourettes be cured? I have had tics since i was five and took "tiapride" since, and i went to lots of doctors and they were really bad at some point. I feel liketheres not enough research on this topic and i always felt like my diagnosis was pretty vague, as i was never diagnosed with "tourette syndrome" but rather just "tics". I am now 18 and since about two years they have gotten better. i no longer take medication for them and i occasionally get the urge to make muscular spasms when i get a really intense emotion, such as frustration or happiness. HAs my tourettes been "cured" then? is it a condition you live with for the rest of your life, but some people can just not present any symptoms as tics get better when you pass early adolescence in some people? thank you.
You need to get a definitive diagnosis to answer your questions. It sounds like you may not have seen the right doctor. Some people can and do ‘grow out’ out their tics, but not all of us do. Some of us have it for the rest of our life, usually if it progresses past early adult hood, But if you were never diagnosed with Tourette’s then you can’t ‘grow out’’ of it. There is a lot of information out there but, again, I would strongly recommend talking to a neurologist to makes sense of your confusing prior ‘diagnosis’.
Bottom line, if you aren’t bothered by your tics now and your life isn’t impacted by them, then you are very lucky and I would leave it at that. Unless that changes. Then I would seek out a neurologist.
