I am 21 years old, and was diagnosed with ADHD and Tourette's syndrome at age 7 or 8. My tics, like most, have come and gone in severity through the years, at their worst in middle school, but have seemed to level off a bit in my early adult years. Recently, I have been dealing with some pretty intense facial and hand tics. My hand tics have gotten so bad that I have resorted to taping my fingers together so that I can't flex them. This tic has caused me severe pain in my knuckles, and I'm afraid I'm going to give myself arthritis if this continues. My tics used to change every couple of months or so, but this one has stuck around for much longer, being pretty severe for over 5 months now. I don't know much about arthritis, but I guess I want to know, is that possible? Can I give myself arthritis from flexing my fingers really hard to much? And does anyone have suggestions for reducing tics, or changing them?
