comorbidity? (Is that even a word? LOL)

My son's diagnosis is fairly new and he hasn't been diagnosed with anything else. I believe he may have a touch of ADHD. It's still early in the school year, but he is already showing signs of restlessness and his teacher (whom I informed at the meet n greet) is starting to get just a tad concerned. (So far nothing as bad as last year. UHG!)

Here's the reason I'm ever here tonight. My son just recently told me that he thinks he has a mind problem. I enquired as to why and he said that sometimes he can't control his imagination. Its kinda like when you know you're dreaming and you try to control the dream, but you can't, only he's wide awake and it's his thoughts he can't control.

He's going to tell the Dr all about it, but until then, any thoughts?

I think the restlessness could just be the Tourettes. I can't sit still for long periods of time without getting up or moving around. I do this at intervals and it helps.Maybe the teacher and you could work out some arrangement about him getting up every once in a while. I had them do this for me at work. Also, the 'mind problem' (god bless him) could be symptoms of OCD which is frequently comorbid (!) with TS. He is describing similar things I went through as a child and for years up to now: I couldn't make my daydreams do what I wanted. And I would get 'stuck' until I could. Hope this helps. :)

When I was diagnosed with TS, I was also diagnosed with ADD and OCD. I also dated a girl previously with TS and OCD. They are commonly diagnosed together.

As a kid I also had a very overactive/vivid imagination. Sometimes it was because I was bored, sometimes because I wanted to be somewhere else. I'm not sure if that was a youth thing or a TS/OCD/ADD thing or not.

The other night I noticed he wad talking to himself real quietly. I asked if he was repeating words over and over (he sometimes does that) and he said no. So I asked what he was saying and he told me he was replaying a past experience in his head and he was just saying the words out loud. He also said he does it a lot. Uhg, this whole thing is just so confusing, I don't know whats normal, whats psychological and whats behavioral. At least hr school is on our side now. Tests half the battle won.
