anybody out there that's recovered from tics?

I've had facial tics since I was 7.


I'm now 47 and have a combination of tics - eyes, neck, eyebrows etc..which I can somewhat manage when talking to people face to face. 


I have such deep shame about this. I remember being pulled aside by the principal in high school as he was concerned about my eye blinking. He told me he thought it was a shame that "such an attractive young lady" experienced these habits. It seems to have not interefered with my ability to attract relationships but every now and then a young child will mirror back to me the eyeblinking - it looks like Im winking on the rhs of my face. 


Is there anybody out there that has recovered from tics? I overcame alcohol addiction and so much more so surely I can overcome this? ☹

I think you should go to a neurologist. I'm not sure I know what you mean by 'overcome", but If you have Tourettes, it isn't something that will just go away, but you certainly shouldn't be made to feel badly about that. You have no control over it. Your teacher was an idiot. What does being attractive have to do with anything?! I'm 53 and I went through the same thing. Back then, no one knew. And girls were supposed to be concerned about that sort of crap. I was told that I was 'too young to be this nervous" by a well meaning teacher. anyway, it was before I was diagnosed, so what did I kn0w?
If you haven't been diagnosed, please follow that up because there are treatments that can help if the tics are causing you stress or pain,
The point is, If you can overcome an alcohol addiction, you can surely deal with what ever this is throwing at you. In fact, you already are. You've been dealing with it forever already. So everyday, you 'overcome' it, believe me. :)
