In many cases there are no adverse effects. But some kids may suffer from headaches or earaches. However, until and unless teeth grinding is chronic, kids do not face any major health effect like TMJ problem. Its better to consult a good dentist before the problem worsens.- omdental.in
Bruxism (teeth grinding) in children is not always, but often a result of a decreased airway due to a deep bite or difficulty breathing through the nose caused by sinus problems or allergies.
Does your child snore?
Are they restless when they sleep?
Any problems with bed wetting?
ADD or ADHD type symptoms?
These are all symptoms of a childhood Sleep Breathing Disorder.
Often, removal of tonsils or adenoids can help increase the oxygenation of the lungs at night and a visit to a Pediatric ENT would be able to tell you if that might be a problem in your son's case.
Have your child bite together and smile. If more than 1/2 of the lower front teeth are covered by the upper front teeth, then you child has a deep bite which causes the lower jaw to retrude which can cause the tongue to block his airway at night.
If your son has a deep bite, talk to your childs dentist about this and inquire about referal to an orthodontist. If the orthodontist says that he has to wait until all of his permanent teeth are in to undergo treatment, go find another orthodontist.

Scientific research has shown that stress is NOT a causative factor in bruxism (teeth grinding).
The most common cause of teeth grinding is having teeth that don't fit together evenly.
If one tooth in your mouth hits harder than anywhere else in your mouth, your brain/central nervous system knows it. Your brain will cause your jaws to grind together to try to wear the "high spot" down on the tooth that is hitting too hard.
The way that your upper and lower teeth fit together is called Occlusion, Malocclusion is teeth that don't hit evenly.
Malocclusion is the cause of bruxism, NOT stress.
Now, if you have malocclusion, stress can be a stimulant to increase your grinding, but in the absence of malocclusion, stress does NOT cause grinding.
I always tell my patients that stress is like lighter fluid and malocclusion is like a flame.
If there is no flame and you put lighter fluid on the ground, it will not spontaneously erupt into a flame.
But, if there is a flame on the ground and you put lighter fluid on it, it will make the flame bigger.
I hope the analogy helps to dispel the notion that stress CAUSES grinding.'

In every case, it is difficult to state why bruxism happens! Sometimes, children may grind because the top and base teeth aren't adjusted appropriately. Others do it as a reaction to stress. Children may grind their teeth as an approach to relieve stress.
In your son's case, talk to him to know whether he is facing any stressful situations or not; if yes help him to sort it out!
In the other case, if your kid is perfectly happy and nothing is bothering him, then you don't have to worry and its time to realize that his teeth grinding is part of the defect in his teeth alignment and it is time to fetch him to any nearby dental clinics, https://www.smiletown.ca/pediatric-dentist-waterloo/ !
Commonly kids outgrow teeth grinding, but if it persists, it can cause health issues like headache, earache etc! Also, teeth grinding during the night can cause the wear down of tooth enamel!
So no need to worry, find out the cause and help him out at the earliest!
Have a nice day!
