Temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMJ syndrome, is an acute or chronic inflammation of the temporomandibular joint, which connects the lower jaw to the skull. The disorder and resultant dysfunction can result in significant pain and impairment.
Also, the type of tightness that seems to be bothering you is very real. The muscles tighten in your neck and throat because your jaw is misaligned. It happens very often and is quite common among TMJ sufferers. It often feels like something is stuck in your throat when there is nothing there. Stress makes all of this worse. Get it checked out and by all means, if you take ANY meds....eat something and drink a lot of water when swallowing. Good luck.
I have so severe symptoms that I'm thinking I will die. I have a feeling that something stuck in my throat and it doesn't move when I'm doing a swallowing action without food or water. It is extremely scary. I have pains that spread to the chest, scapulas, throat, ear, neck, skull, belly, legs and makes all my body seak.
Two years splint treatment didn't help and even made symptoms worse. I was getting up after 1 or 2-hours sleep all sweated because of spasm pains in my body.
Replacing the crowns and bridges and continues adjustment of my bite gave big improvement, but the throat function is still not right and makes me crazy. It causes spasm in my belly and leg muscles.
I'm having this problem already 8 years.
Coughing so strong caused my right eyes membrane that attached to the retina to come off (posterior vitreous detachment). Now I have floats in my right eye which is annoying feeling.
Now every day I'm cursing the day that I met those criminal dentists.
Remember, if any doctor changes your bite and jaw position immediately sue that doctor and do everything to put your jaw back its natural position asap.
Delaying the treatment creates complicated life-threatening problems.
