apparantly your brain is still very active and listening out for noise while you are asleep... Micky
Like McCartyJ, I also sleep with earbuds, listening to water noises, theta waves, and/or pink noise all night, every night to help me sleep.
I do TRT and my audiologist was very adamant that it will not work/help while you are sleeping.
Mmm wonder who is right ? .. The guys at Neuromonics themselves told me to wear the unit at night ! i would think that wearing ear buds at night while you sleep , listening to your music is a form of TRT No !>

I think it is more designed for daytime use because it is trying to reprogram the subconscious mind . So it trains you to to not be upset by tinnitus, as it gradually lowers the mask and or the music level over time. It is important towards the end to hear both the tinnitus clearly and the music.
I doubt that it would do anything overnight because I think they would set up the machine to play all night and not stop, or would tell you to use it at night directly.
Doesn't seem like it could hurt either. If you started to wake up, you would hear the music your getting used to and not tinnitus and react badly perhaps.
The program works well intertwined with your daytime activities. You need to really committed to it. It takes a long time retrain you brain about something it has decided its afraid of.

Strange because the team at Neuromonics told me to use it over night if i could ... trouble is the Bang & Olufsen ear buds are very bulky and can be very painful lying on them .. so whats the difference between listening to Neuromonics or some digitaly downloaded special Tinntus music / sounds on an i /pod - or mp3 player.. think the main difference is around 4500 pounds / Dollars

My specialist also said to listen to it while sleeping so I guess theres two schools of thought around that one.
I've just recently started taking some herbs for anxiety & they have really helped me be in a calmer place about it all.
Thanks for everyones input.
The sounds I listen to at night are played loud enough to MASK my T, while the TRT must ALWAYS be played below my T (so I hear it), so they are not the same thing. I could not sleep if I heard my T at night; it is very shrill. Some days my T *IS* so loud it can't really be masked so I drug myself out to sleep. All I know is my audio was trained at a Jastreboff training and has been doing this for 20 years, so I trust her, though of course she could be wrong. The mind is a pretty amazing thing and there were those years where people listened to audio tapes in their sleep to learn stuff...
I do know some on here wear their TRT devices to bed; it likely can't hurt, but my audio insists it doesn't help. I know my night time masking is not the same as TRT, though.
Like Sug, those I know on Neuro say they were not told to listen to the device at night, only the hours they are told to listen to them during the day and absolutely no longer than that. They are very adamant (from what I've told by those on Neuromonics) that you don't go over your Neuromonis hours each day.
I invested in neuromonics and it actually bothered my ears because my T is very reactive to noise and I have sound sensitivity. I am going in for a re evaluation to reprogram my neuromonics device
I have 2 friends who cannot wear their Neuromonic unit because its increases the Tinntus sound in their head /ears .. Neuromonics say they will refund monies up to 30 days if the patient is not happy with the unit , but this is hardly enough to evaluate the unit as Neuromonics say that you should see benefit after around 6 months or so .. while your Neuromonics unit is being worn it will remove the threat of Tinnitus, basically because Tinnitus is virtually masked .. i found when i wore mine i was stressing about taking the damn thing off, knowing that the Tinntus would return with a vengence
