Neilster--caffeine/espresso/coffee actually lowers (or keeps los) some people's T, though a trial printed in ATA magazine showed coffee had no affect at all on those in the clinical trial. Alcohol, esp red wine, lowers a lot of people's T as long as you don't overdo, then it can make it worse. Red wine lowers the sugar in the blood stream (and brain)--that could be why.
As far as salt, salt has never affected my T at all. I eat salty foods all the time. (I don't have a BP problem--IDK if that matters.) But processed sugar--my T spikes within 10 mins of eating it! Very bad for my T!! (I don't have any kind of insulin/diabetes problem, just FYI). I eat fructose, xylitol, and Stevia all work fine for me--no spiking whatsoever. Chocolate=very bad (even that dark, bitter choc with no sugar in it!).
As for naps, I cannot sleep at all during the day. Do not think I have had a nap in 50 years, but I don't think T has anythng to do with that, just a lousy sleeper (I am lucky if I can get 7 hours at night).
I wish I could find a trigger, it would be nice to have a few soundless moments again.....
