1)both ears, not the same and unmaskable.
2)tones (low and high freq), ringing, buzzing, fizzing, scratching, whizzing - i still wonder how im still alive after 15months of this hell.
@cfkb: I think I can help, if you're willing to try. I only ask that if you get benefit you put in a good word for the therapy.
@danny78: I'm happy to do the same for you, but please know that your case is way more difficult. I have an idea or two though if you're interested.
First, we'll need to get as close as possible to a consistent pitch of the ringing or noise:

Take your time and try to get it as close as possible. Toggling the sound on/off with the check box really helps to home in on it.
Once you've got that, post back and (again, only if you're interested in trying) let me know what pitch your ringing is at. Don't go through the checkout process - this is good faith :)
If you are interested, there's more information at http://www.notchterapy.com, on the main page.
I forgot another question: is there hearing loss involved here? If so, in one or both ears?
Thanks again for posting back, I'm curious to hear from some other folks. In my case, it was a constant ring in both ears. At its worst is sounded like a jet engine, which was brutal.
Sincerely,
Matt Cauthorn

Ignoring it via distraction (movie, because you're fully engrossed) is only way I don't hear//pay attention to it.
Radio, I still hear it become it's just your ears, while your mind dwells on it.
Mine is a high tone shrill like were.
Imagine an amplifier on full with no input, just the electricity running through it. Full powered eee.
Like walking into a room and knowing somethingelectric is on but not being used.
Whine shrilling electric din of eee.
Worse than a yelling match between Fran dresher and Gilbert Godfrey.
I hear everything that goes on inside my body (e.g., my eyeballs moving, my neck muscles squishing when I turn my head, etc.), but it's really easy to distinguish what is a tinnitus sound and what is a sound of something going on inside my head. The tinnitus sounds are the ones that are screaming. :)
Matt, if it helps I know my tinnitus is in the 12KHZ-14KHZ range.

Nowadays (2.5 years later or so) it tends to be mostly quiet and doesn't affect my life all that much unless it flares on me. This occurs when I don't sleep much, or when I stare at a computer screen for too long.
Especially now, I want to reiterate: if any of you are interested, I'm happy to provide you with a custom notch therapy track of white or brown noise, tuned to your frequency. Obviously, the folks with a consistent pitch ring will have an easier time, but I'd like to try and help the more complex cases as well. For me, it was a dramatic and life changing thing.
If you are interested, hit my frequency finder application here (requires java):

Take your time and get as close as possible.
Then feel free to reach out to me directly via email: mcauthorn (at) notchtherapy (dot) com. Put your frequency in there and I'll hook you up and send you a download link. I've got information on the research that this therapy is based on here, as well as other info.

Don't go through the checkout process - you've been really open to sharing the information with me and the community, and I'm happy to do this for you. Hopefully it helps.
If you decide to try it (my feelings won't be hurt if you don't), I'd love to check in and see how things are progressing. It's likely it'll help, particularly for the simpler cases, and for those of us who have a frequency less than 8,000 Hz the protocol changes a bit and you can realize some significant results within a couple of weeks - this was my personal experience. Within about 4 weeks the T was beaten into oblivion, where it belongs...
Also: one study found Melatonin to be a help for 57% of the subjects (especially men) vs. the control group, so that could be a good try. Note that a larger study on Ginko showed no improvement vs. placebo...
Anyhow, thanks again, and I look forward to helping the support effort here. Horrible stuff.

That pitch is way up there for sure; the big challenge there is to get the match of your frequency - the higher end of the spectrum is logarithmic, which is to say it's harder to detect changes. This is probably why your audiologist gave you such a broad range. I'll set you up at 13kz which will cover your full range and should give you results.
