Xanax is known to sometimes help with the ringing. I took elavil once - lowered my blood pressure to the point I passed out.

All three together doesn't seem the best idea - but I would get with a psychiatrist also - they are experts on all of those drugs.

I have issues with falling asleep and staying asleep due to the noise in my head. I take temazapam 15mg two to threee times a week, other times I take Tylenol PM. I am also on Prozac since this noise makes me depressed. When I else fails - I drink and listed to the TV with my TV ears.... until I fall asleep. I have had tinnitus for 17 years... If always gets worse in the fall and after any head cold or sinusitis...It lessens in the summer.

I have completely moved away from taking anything prescription for my ailments. I was taking an antidepressant but found it kicked up my restless leg syndrome(RLS). So now I am just taking vitamins and supplements. I am trying to find whats going to work best to calm my neuropathy at night and let me sleep. I can ignore the T. I just want to be able to relax. With the cold weather it is a struggle. I also was taking demerol to get to sleep when it was really necessary.

Klonopin. .25 1x nightly. Doesn't make the ringing go down, just helps with relaxation. Took Lexapro for 3 months or so last winter but replaced it with exercise. I never thought I could silence the noise on medication just control my reaction to it thus making it less intrusive. The bottom line is the more relaxed the less it will bother you no matter how loud it is. Sometimes easier said than done but worth every effort.

I tried taking klonopin but it gave me too many side effects. I wish I could take Xanax to reduce the ringing, but can't, also too many side effects. I am taking 10mg of prozac for depression, which I have done with absolutely no problems for 17 years. Since I couldn't tolerate klonopin, I am back on ativan .5 morning and night. It's nowhere near as powerful as the others but definitely relieves my anxiety which presumably helps the t but not sure about that. Mine is so very high-pitched and pretty much always stays at the same consistent level. If only that level was not so loud........

Actually, I should add that the statement that it always stays about the same was optimistic. For no apparent reason, it spikes up, always begins when I am asleep. Three days of lower and then zoom. Do not know if it has to do with ativan levels. Also, I meant to add, anecdotally, that it was definitely elavil, given to me by a neurologist for caffeine withdrawal headaches, that caused my tinnitus.

One more observation. Psychiatrists are supposed to be experts, but I'm here to tell you, it is not easy to find a good one, Beware. Speaking from experience in NY, NY top hotshot credentials may mean zilch.
