I posted here a couple of years ago in an attempt to reassure sufferers of Tinnitus that treatments and cures were not too far off in the future. I'd like to provide a relevant update on that. I have been following a "new" physics theory for quite some time now. It is very controversial in the realm of Quantum Mechanics as it will supplant much of QM with a superior framework that follows all of the physical laws and is based on Maxwell's Equations. It has superior predictive power wildly beyond any current theory on known physical phenomena. However, it also makes predictions on previously "unknown" phenomena such as transition reactions of hydrogen that explain in great but simple detail, phenomena such as dark matter, the coronal heating paradox of the Sun, but also can serve as an extremely powerful and non-polluting energy source. It is not a complicated process but the physical framework is "new" and the engineering is being done now.
Last year a breakthrough in producing these transition reactions were made and there are currently several Fortune 500 engineering firms constructing components of the prototype and soon to follow commercial version. The originator of this theory is a Harvard MD who went on to study physics at MIT, and then to further prove his theory and create applications for it, with the most obvious being commercial power. Proof of concepts were given back in July of last year showing the process and proving beyond reasonable doubt that the process is real. Engineering to produce commercial versions is happening as I write this.
The point is that this prototype is set to be presented to the world sometime soon, likely before the start of summer. The theory enables exact and closed form solutions of any atom or molecule, no matter how complex. This is a feat that QM will never be able to achieve as any multi-electron system is essentially unsolvable without gross and inaccurate approximations using what is called Monte Carlo modeling.
The implications of this are that once the theory is widely adopted, which most of us assume will happen after the demonstration device and commercialization begins, that medical research will fully embrace the power that this new physics will provide. It's actually not new physics, but comes from the simple observation that an electron modeled a certain way does not have to radiate and will be stable in orbit without invoking any of the nonsense found in QM.
There is already software created by the company that enables researchers to model such impossible molecules as insulin or dystrophin, which has always been an unattainable dream of QM. This new capability of exact and closed form solutions to molecules will likely enable very rapid advances in the biotechnology field.
As just one example, with such capability, researchers will be able to model the protein folding process with accuracy and speed never imagined possible. Currently, protein folding is one of the greatest uses of civilian computing power as literally millions of processors are linked to use QM to model a single protein folding sequence. It is basically using computers to guess at likely folding sequences amongst an essentially infinite number of sequences and hasn't been particularly successful or helpful. This new theory will change all of that and enable highly accurate solutions and modeling of physical processes that are viewed as near impossible to solve using theory alone currently.
I am sharing this with the community so that those of you close to your wits end in dealing with severe Tinnitus will convince yourselves to hold on a bit longer with the knowledge that real treatments and cures are not far off.
If you are so inclined feel free to join the Society for Classical Physics on Yahoo Groups for direct interaction with the originator of the theory and a group of students, including myself, who understand the theory well and have been following its progress for many years.

Anyhow, the company that I mentioned is not specifically working on a treatment for tinnitus, it is headed up by an MD who developed a physics theory that basically explains how everything works based on a new model of the electron. It is modeled as a 2D non-interacting shell of vector currents which do not radiate in accordance with the Haus condition (non-radiation condition shown by Professor Haus at MIT). Anyway, in simple terms he has come up with a grand unified theory.
The company is working on a commercial energy device which will be demonstrated probably by summer, which will demonstrate beyond any doubt that the theory is correct. The experiments and validations by independent researchers at Cal Tech and some other well-known schools have been done, and the breakthrough which is enabling of this quick path to commercialization happened just last year; thus it is a race to commercialization at this point. The theory, validations, and evidence are all readily available on the company's website. I mentioned the forum where discussions on the theory and coming commercial device take place.
The point is that once this theory becomes the de facto standard in science, it will give researchers in every field of science an arsenal which in all honestly, wasn't expected for another few decades, if ever. For one, it will enable all teams across the globe developing therapeutics access to new and extremely powerful modeling tools which are widely regarded as impossible by mainstream science. It's actually a bit silly since the modelling software is available for free now, but it is not widely used. The end result is that we should hopefully see real treatments not too far off.
I hear what you are saying with the FDA approval process. Back in 2012, I believe, FDASIA was passed by Congress with the intent of speeding access to new breakthrough therapeutics. Although the frustration with the slow and expensive, sometimes as much as 500 million, approval process is real as the parents of kids with DMD know all too well. Anyhow I understand the frustration but know that there is light at the end of the tunnel which draws closer every year.
Anyhow, this will be pretty huge news when it happens later this year so remember to think back to this post and be encouraged that it only means good things in terms of the time we have to wait for a real treatment and even cure.
