Hi I am a new member here and it is good to know I am not alone with my high pitched ringing. I have had tinnitus for @ 4 years. Mine started when I was taking Ativan and Ambien and in between doses is when the ringing would really kick in. In February 2007 I abrubtly withdrew from these drugs as they were doing me no good, and my tinnitus went through the roof and has been there ever since. I have a day or two every now and then where it is somewhat diminished but it's rare. My question is is there any of ya'll out there who have tinnitus due to taking or withrawing off of benzodiazepines?

i think I got mine from methotrexate (chemo drug) but I have heard or read that withdrawal from benzos can cause T. Sorry you've suffered so long.

I am not sure what really triggered the tinnitus. but I have been taking Ativan on an as needed basis and I have found in the past year the tinnitus is far worse than it ever was. I don't take the ativan everyday but the tinnitus is always there and is screaming some days and it never use to be. I thought perhaps it was my blood pressure medicine. I just don't know anymore. I also take Tramadol for pain, I wonder if that does something too. the thing is I need the pain med so I can't do much about that.

I think blood pressure meds often cause T. Is tramedol the only thing you take for RA? The screeming T is what does me in, sadly that's how mine is 95% of the time, which in hindsight is an improvement as last year it was 100% of the time. Slowly I hope I'm heading in the right direciton.

Hi @suera. I had over 15 yrs of very active RA. The doc says it's asleep now. can be described as in remission. I do not take RA drugs now. I tried many drugs over the years including the methotrexate, plaquinil, gold, imuran, prednisone, naproxyn, remicade infusions.....etc.......so that is why I am not sure what really caused the tinnitus because it could be a myriad of things.

I take the Tramadol now as I have severe joint damage because of what RA did. and so the Tramadol is for the OA. It is sad to say that all the drugs I did take to try and 'control' the RA did not do zip. around 2005/2006 I chose to stop all drugs for over a year and did some alternative and that is when I went into remission.

i still get regular check ups and lab work done just to keep an eye on things. i deal with fibromyalgia now which is often a common 'friend' of RA. I am hoping that I can find a way to be free from the fibro too.

I don't want to stray off the topic at hand. but you can see that all the drugs I have taken, not to mention depression and anxiety medications i have taken could have contributed to my current state of tinnitus.

I'm sorry. I'm glad you found remission....I don't dare hope for that :(
