Hang in there Bob

I think there are several people over there that it would be good for the forum if they just stayed away for 6 months and took a breather. A dozen years ago the hot topic was TRT being a sham or not. Guess what there still talking about?
what is different about folks who are able to, as Robx2 on Yuku says, turn it into a non-issue...what makes habituation come or not come?
some people like Jacksonof (Yuku) insisted that their tinnitus was just horribly loud, I don't know if you remember him or not...yet in about 2 years suddenly he comes back after reading the Henry/Wilson book sent him so kindly by Dr.Nagler, and posts a HUGE success story about how he just doesn't care anymore about his T.
I would love to hear some insight from a T veteren.
It started to get worse and I knew I was in trouble. Had to go back to masking most of the day and that's where i'm today. It is a daily constant battle. Why?? It's LOUD and IRRITATING!! I'm still trying to figure out why,to this day, people are still asking if TRT is a sham or not? Great progress.
I agree with Delta, unless my pitch and volume goes down I can't imagine getting used to this. On a low day I'm okay but there aren't enough of them. I feel many with tinnitus only have the low version because since I've been here now I've seen way to many people say something to the effect of "I've had tinnitus for 5 years and it never bothered me until this spike I had 2 weeks ago and I am struggling to cope"...those people get it but until it happens to you, you can act superior and think the rest of us are weak but what you should do it thank your lucky stars and pray you never get a spike that lasts years:(

Therefore they have made up a nice "protocol", which puts everyone in one big bakset, which says regardless of what "YOU" think you have, "WE" tell you it is all the same tinnitus. Well, just like Dr.Nager says "tinnitus is tinnitus". So, here we have the ultimate cover-up, if you are not successful, it is YOUR fault, and not the protocol's.
TRT has 2 parts, sound therapy and directive councelling. So they have SO many ways to explain to you why you failed if you did. but they don't have to rely on that plan because 80% of T suffers are mild to moderate cases. Hence an 80% success rate!
Its brilliant!
If you wore the generators by the book, then you did not have an open mind at the councelling, if you did the councelling to the "T", but refused to wear the generators because your T got worse, it again is your fault because, wng's cannot make T worse. Its a no-fail system.
And because there will always be 80% more mild to moderate cases of tinnitus out there who are successful, who do you think they will listen? The 15% or so who fail?
I am really appalled by what Dr.nagler told Bebee on Yuku regarding his failure at TRT administered at the UofBuffalo, by TRT clinician Dr.Stocking. Its yet another cop-out used by TRT proponents - if you did the councelling by the book, and you wore your generators by the book, then its because you went to the "Chevy" dealership of TRT and not the "Lexus" dealership.
That is such bullcrap I ever heard in my life.
Directive councelling a person who is sitting in front of you with blaring tinnitus in his head saying its how you react to it, is like explaining to passengers on a Boeing 747 to stay calm when the airplane engines cut-out at 10,000 feet.
I went to a TRT session 2 days ago, conducted by a clinician 15years in the business of TRT. Since I knew everything that she told me, at least she was frank with me and told me at the conclusion this statement:
"Patients with loud "beehive" type tinnitus take years to get better, so since you know all the theory of TRT it would be better for you to go to a regular audiologist, buy a pair of wng's and set them at the mixing point of your tinnitus until you habituate."
p.s. upon realizing in the first minute of testing that my tinnitus is very loud, she quickly dropped the testing and moved on to councelling! No loudness match, no pitch match, no minimum masking levels.
TRT is the ultimate denial therapy.
If you gotten better by just the councelling, you did not NEED TRT.
If you gotten better by wearing the wng's, you can do it on your own and they would make it easier if they just typed up a reference booklet (instruction manual) strictly on how to use the devices as you get along in time. Have you ever tried asking a TRT clinician "could you just tell me how to work these devices and I'll be on my way" ??? You'll get the "It won't work without the councelling" bit.
So what she basically told me is that, she doubts that telling me its all in my reaction is gonna help me and in any case its gonna take me years if ever to habitutate...so get the wng's and may Allah be with you!
Depending on how long you habituate, if you take the full 18 months, you could be looking at around $1800
Thats not including sound generators.
The thing is that wearing wng's is better than having an mp3 player because after a while you stop noticing you have it on, which is part of "getting used to it". There is nothing to carry in your pocket and there are no wires. Thats the only advantage as far as I can see.
Great analogy Danny!
WNG's are those hearing aids?
