A neurologist can probably prescribe anti epileptics for you to try.
There is not much else can be done for tinnitus.

It's not just the doctors in Fresno, none of them seem to know or care much about dealing with tinnitus. If you have someone that is giving you xanax for the anxiety caused by tinnitus that's more than a lot of doctors will do. I'm always hoping for a cure too:)

Hi sueera, I know the doctors just don't seem to care at all. I have a psychiatrist that prescribes my Xanax. My regular doctor just prescribed me an anti seizure but more for depression than anything else. I have not even talked to him about my tinnitus since I already know there is nothing they can do. I will always hold out hope for a cure!

Did the antiseizures from your reg doc help? I take three antiseizures.

You could try a neurologist since you have "nerve damage." He could at least probably tell you if you do or don't. It's always a crapshoot trying to find a good doctor, though. Some are great, some are awful, as you know. But like Danny said, a good neurologist can probably suggest some antiseizure meds to try. Maybe Pramipexol, too--a study in ATA magazine showed that helped a fair amount of ppl to some degree.

Hi Mcmurdo. Have not tried the LAMOTRIGINE yet! I was waiting to see my psychiatrist to get her opinion. I really like her and always run everything by her. I do think I need to see a Neurologist and I will talk to my reg doctor up coming! I will start the LAMOTRIGINE probably on Sunday. I have to travel 45 minutes away tonight and tomorrow is my Anniversary so will begin the new med on Sunday. I am a little paranoid about new meds too so it usually takes me a while to get going on them.lol can you tell!!!

Thanks for your suggestion on the other med! that will be something I can try as well!

Happy anniversary! Keep us posted on the lamotrigine and what your psych says. Glad you found a good psych you like--a good one can be very helpful!

Ive seen them all. My general doc didnt even know what tinnitus and hyper acusis was. I went to another pych. She gave me oxcarbazpine saying that it would diminsh the t. Yeah it diminished the t for about three days then I got real sick more T, anxiety and depression and stomach issues. It was terrible. Now I have a new level of t and anxiety and the sleep is worse. I have found very little doctoring and compassion from dr' in Tucson. Bottom line. There are over 30 million Americans that are hurting from this affliction, to the point the majority of them can no longer contribute in our society. Many of us die way to soon. Many of them are vets, 22 vets per day commit suicide. Many of them have Tinnitus. Im ashamed from the lack of governmental funds. The pharmaceuticals are leading the politicians by there pocketbooks. Ive had mine for three years, lost my job. I cant contribute. I am constantly exhausted Ive aged ten years for the three. Bless my brothers and sisters in their hour of pain. I hope we all find peace before our time.

rubel ! I know my friend, it's really bad some days! I don't function that well either. I really feel like you captured what a lot of us are feeling like! and i agree i find it really hard to believe they don't have a cure for this crap! I did have an ENT tell me because of the vets coming back with T that they are now doing a lot more funding for T. That is some good news at least!

I've seen 2 ENTs for this condition. The first one basically told me, "Don't waste your money on any medications because nothing works." The second one just gave me some vitamins and a bunch of printouts of what I can try, which included white noise and melatonin. That was it. Nothing has worked for me!

Melatonin? For sleep, but not for your T, right? Or was he saying melatonin helps quiet T??

MD, that is why I call them just "NTs" not ENTs. :(

The article the ent gave me states that melatonin, ginko, St. John's Wart, lipoflavinoids and vitamins claim to reduce tinnitus. CLAIM???
I've tried melatonin and lipoflavinoids and neither helped with T only with sleep.

Interesting! I took melatonin a long time for sleep, and I never had it lower my T. Didn't even know it could! 0_o L-Tryptophan does seem to lower my T sometimes...I take it for sleep now instead of melatonin.

LOL @ claim. There are indeed lots of CLAIMS @ helping T? :/
