Hey! Quick intro: I've had pulsatile tinnitus for 3 years now. Almost killed myself a few times. Feeling MUCH better these days... Anyway, this is just my two cents... but I don't trust many doctors. In spite of what they think... they are NOT gods. I can google a diagnosis on my smart phone faster than most docs will get there. In my experience, these guys will prescribe ANYTHING if they get the proper monetary kick-back from the pharmacuetical companies. That is why most drugs typically have the disclaimer about how your doctor may prescribe their garbage for off label uses. That is like a catch all. When I first started going through this, my jack @$$ doctors gave me all kinds of drugs... and they were all currently being advertised on TV. Suspicious? Then I started looking around the office only to see the staff wearing hats and shirts advertising those same drugs... not to mention clocks, kleenex holders, pens, note pads, etc... with those drug names. One "specialist" that I went to see even tried to sell me some of that snake oil that is out there... You know the ones that you have to take for a whole year before you will know if it will work for you or not. I guess what I'm saying is.,.. If it was me... I'd never go back to that doc. Parkinsons... Nope. IN MY OPINION, you are poisoning yourself. These doctors know the desperation we tinnitus sufferers feel and unfortunately some of them... no... MOST of them take full advantage. The parkinsons meds were probably to fill a quota for the quarter so he could win a boat or a trip to a casino or something. No more of this stuff. If it's not helping, just stop taking it.

I tend to agree with nolongermyself. There really isn't a drug specifically designed to treat tinnitus. I know that some people have depression or high anxiety due to the noise of the tinnitus and take meds to control the anxiety or depression, but that's treating those symptoms and not so much the tinnitus. I think that AD's or anti-anxiety meds just kind of make a person detach from the tinnitus itself. I have had T for almost three years myself and have tried a couple of different meds...Xanax which I went through hell and back coming off of and Elavil which caused tinnitus to start in my good ear so I immediately ceased and threw the pills out. Lesson learned for me: No more drugs! Believe me I've had nights where I had only gotten three or four hours of sleep and have to get up and go to work the next day. For sleeping, I now have a great pair of noise cancellation ear phones hooked up to an MP3 player that plays continuous white noise.

I have heard of Requip and wondered if it would help T as Prami does. There are studies showing Prami helps many people with T and several on here have been helped with Prami for their T. I took it for awhile and it helped, but I had a reaction to it and had to stop. I've wondered if Requip would work instead, though there are no studies of it on T like there are for Prami.

I wonder why your doc didn't just put you on Prami since that has been studied for T? I currently take Trileptal for T and it helps keep my T lower on most days. I'm thankful for good docs who are willing to prescribe things off label (within reason) in hopes that it will relieve suffering. My doc is awesome--really smart about meds--and often has my blood tested for potassium levels, how it's affecting my liver, and such after I start a new drug just to be sure it isn't causing problems.

I rtook Requip before I had tinnitus. So I have to say dunno.

Have been on Pramipexole for almost 2 months now and it has does wonders for my tinnitus. It's changed everything about it. Now I wake up with hardly any tinnitus where before it was always blasting in the morning. No more masking 18 hours a day to cover it up. Never heard of the drug Ropinirole. Wonder why your doctor just didn't let you try the Pramipexole? I'm only on a small dose and seeing huge benefits.
