The US military is the most powerful organization on earth, if Tinnitus dipped their recruitment all of a sudden, I bet they'd find a cure.

The U.S. military is spending $1.2 Billion in tinnitus disability funding EACH YEAR. What was the total amount devoted to research on tinnitus in FY 2011? Less than $5 Million. Less than 1% of the annual expenditure on disability payments. In comparison, the U.S. Military directed $150 Million for breast cancer research in FY 2011. Tinnitus is currently the #1 disability for servicemen returning from Afghanistan.
A U.S. soldier is considered 10% disabled if he/she has tinnitus in one ear and 20% disabled if in both. This adds up to serious money which, I believe, will eventually make it worthwhile for our government, in the interest of saving money, and the private sector, in the interest of making money, to seriously start looking for a cure. According to the ATA, its estimated that 50 million Americans experience tinnitus to some degree. Of these, about 16 million have severe enough tinnitus to seek medical attention and about two million are so seriously debilitated that they cannot function normally on a day-to-day basis. The number of tinnitus suffers is growing every year.
Its my humble opinion that education (even if we could hack into facebooks main page and replace index.html ) wont do a damn thing to help fund a cure, and if recruitment dipped, our government would just start the draft again. Its all about $money$. Without a hefty ROI, Im afraid very little will be done to find a cure for tinnitus. The positive in all this is the potential for a hefty ROI is growing every year and with that, more funding and interest is growing as well. Now the big question is, will we be able to afford it in our lifetime when one is found? It typically takes insurance companies years to cover a new med and a pharmaceutical can have a monopoly on their discovery for up to 20 years during that time, no one else can sell it.
Praying the money will be found and used for this debilitating cause.
