I believe there was one study that didn't find any benefit, but, as we know, that doesn't mean nobody benefited--just not enough to be statistically significant.

I tried a cousin of gabapentin (neurontin) which is pregabilin (lyrica) and it made my T worse. But, these kinds of meds--which work on neurotransmiters may prove to be helpful. There is one reseacher out there who believes that Lyrica may be helpful in the animal studies they are doing.

I did Lyrica and gabapentin - it did not change tinnitus

BTW - gabapentin had hellish withdrawal -like i had the flu - days in bed - wanting to throw up - did a couple of times - hot and cold flashes all over - yeah, just like the flu -

Apparently our bodies quit producing some gaba something while on drug - and when we drop drug - takes days for brain to resume that function - hence the withdrawals.

Only xanax was worse in withdrawals than gaba.

Best luck to you - if T is caused by lack of that gaba receptor or whatever - this drug will fix it -

if it is cochlea damage or inner ear damage - you won't feel much difference

Those of us with hearing loss - Neurontin probably won't help - those with mystical tinnitus - no discernable reason - you have a chance with a pharmaceutical helping

Hello April- this is my first step to getting help and information about tinnitus. I'm afraid I have no advise to share I wish I had. All I can say Is It look like you're In the right place.

There is a natural form of this called GABA. I havent tried it yet, though. I think neurontin is a form of GABA but not sure.
