Neuromonics has never helped me except to mask the tinnitus which to be honest a cheap i pod could do the same .. i have given it a fair trial over the last 5 years, i wished now i had returned the unit within the 30 day trial period .. thirty days is hardly enough to evaluate the effiacy of this unit ... they told me it would turn my life around in 6 months , but sady this hasen't happened , allthough it did turn my bank balance around quite significantly, i also have a few friends who have thrown their unit in the bottom drawer .. sorry but thats my personal take on Neuromonics .. I originally started Neuromonics last summer. I didnt follow through because my tinnitus is very reactive to noise and it increased my tinnitus and I was sound sensitive. I quit using it. However, I just went back in to my audiologist at the advice of my neurologist and they are now taking a different route. They are toning down the volume of the white noise imbedded in the music and are having me listen to on a lower volume for only 2 hrs. a day to address the hyperacusis first. The device wont work for me unless that is addressed. I use it in 4-30 min increments which is easy. This device over stages is designed to reduce your focus on it and to retrain your brain not to focus on it. The first stage is a masking stage where you get relief from hearing it and your mind doesnt focus on it, then the second stage I believe is to not mask it so much and let you actually hear it some but still retrain your brain not to focus on it. It is supposed to take a few months, six I think, I honestly cant recall now. So right now I am not even in one of the stages, I am just addressing the hyperacusis and once my ears get used to sound they can then address the tinnitus. Then I actually go into the phase of masking the tinnitus. My audiologist's last patient had terrific success, he was a textbook case. He used it like they told him and it worked, now he barely uses it except when his T might flare. Each one can be different. Give it your best and follow the program and see it through to know if it will truly work for you. I wish you the best with it.

Thanks for the replies. Needless to say I am skeptical but willing to try it as prescribed. I needed to try something. I was starting to look at tall buildings and thinking of jumping.

The audiologist I consulted with by no means pushed me into Neuromonics but did say with my type of tinnitus (high pitched) it might help. I am early on in the process and will keep you informed. I am finding it hard to listen appropriately 2 to 4 hours a day especially with work and kids etc.. Good luck to all..

I ran in to the same problem. Listening to it at the maximum time of 4 hrs. seems very difficult. That couple with my sound sensitivity made me quit using it. I went back to my audiologist and she spoke with someone from Neuromonics and actually lowered the white noise in the device and are addressing the sound sensitivity first before actually using the masking in the device. So I am not in any "stage" of Neuromonics per se, they are just addressing the hyperacusis first. Then I enter in to it. They only have me listening in 30 min. increments for up to 2 hrs. which is manageable. It's the 4 hrs. combined with work and family that is tough, so I understand the frustration. Give it a shot and do your best. If you listen to it the minimum of 2 hrs. and can squeeze any extra out then that's good. You cant listen to it watching tv or while driving but otherwise if you can use it at work try to, at least your lunch hour. Then when you are off work you can put it on while doing most things. Just put it on and forget it. Best Wishes! I hope it works for you.

Kasandra , my friend in West Virginia has reactive tinntius as well .... he tried Neuromonics but made his T a lot worse .. he persevered with it for a few months and then stopped using it, threw it in the bottom drawer and its still there today 4 years later .. the guys from Neuromonics never asked him if he had re-active Tinnitus..

Hi - lefdt you an e-mail. I have had good success with this - everyone is different and differnt things work. For me this worked and is working. I listened for 2 to 4 maybe more hours a day - I just put it on and went about my business even at work. Good luck to you and hang in there!

From what I have heard neuromonics works for many. I am not sure about people with reactive t. I do no that most sounds, such as music makes the ringing and or hissing much worse.

I will see how it goes with sugaboog, I wish her all the luck in the world.

Kevin Hogan got himself better by wearing a Sony Walkman through out the night for a few months.. he taped the ear buds to his ears to stop them falling out during the night.. he listened to classical music cd's .. ive read his book ... he did suffer very badly from Tinntus... he also had councelling and some hypnotherapy which he sayes helped .. seems it was a combination of therapies applied that won his battle.. and dident cost him a fortune !! what is the difference between some digitally mastered Tinntus masking cd's which cost a few bucks and neuromonics that costs several thousands ... in fact over 5,000 !! unfortunatley i read his book and his methods after i had paid out for Neuromonics.
