Now.. noting in neck, shoulder, head... nothing in left ear.. nothing in right ear... only when i am lying in dead quiet AFTER eating too much sugar, salt, or any basic crap.. then i hear it very very very low.. just a simple hiss... very low.. i actually like it.. i think zero T would be kind of lonely after what I had accompanying me!!!!
so don't think this worked cuz i had a mild case.. and don't think it was caused by the food i was eating... my T came on after sudden hearing-loss from either loud noise, an infection, or god knows what.. my hearing in high pitches is still gone.. the ear doesn't have to heal/change.. the hairs are probably still burnt out.. but alas.. no tinnitus 99% of my life now... and the 1%.. it's my choice to eat what tastes good :)
It came at a good time for me and has given me some hope. I just recently made the connection to high salicylate diet and/or a wheat sensitivity possibly aggravating my existing tinnitus. So I have been eating very bland for a few days now. Except last night and today , where I cheated due to Christmas, so will have to re-start Day 1 of "bland" tomorrow.
Your comment that it took 2 or 3 weeks to notice a difference was helpful to me. I am one of those "wants instant results" kind of people especially when looking for tinnitus relief. And with the low salicylate/wheat-free diet thus far I had not noticed any quantifiable difference in the T although I did feel healthier overall. I noticed when I ate wheat/high salicylates last night for the first time in a week, that I became congested and sneezed alot! Here I had been blaming my sinus problems on seasonal allergies (which I also have) and wondering why the sinusitus never went away during the winter months anymore. Well, perhaps due to a wheat/salicylate sensitivity which has worsened as I have aged! Anyway, I am encouraged by your comment of 2-3 weeks and will be more patient in waiting for results.
Your other helpful comment (at least to me) was that your tinnitus was not caused originally by the food you ate and yet the diet still helped. I wondered this about myself - that is if eating better would even matter - because my tinnitus was associated with high-frequency hearing loss and then in the last few months increased dramatically by the use of oto-toxic antibiotic.
In any event, while I realize that anecdotal "cures" are not going to work for everyone, it was nice to hear that what you did worked for you and that you have been asking the same questions in your experience that I have been asking in mine. I can only hope I find the same relief for tinnitus that you did. Like you, I don't even care if it goes any completely ... it would just be nice to get it back down to a manageable level.
I suppose, if nothing else, an improved diet will have positive effects on the rest of my body. And maybe that will help me cope better emotionally with the tinnitus. The way I see it there is nothing to lose.
I think its safe to say he cut out all:
nitrates
glutamates
sulphates
salicytates
phosphates
red food coloring
Processed foods like Kraft dinners, canned foods, etc.
Danny's basically right.. I cute out almost everything processed.. but not everything.. like i just emailed someone.. when i worked from the house i had no t for about 2 months surviving on just plain chicken breast, pure apple juice, and tons of fruits and vegetables from the farmers market (beware, lettuce and vegies in bags are sprayed).
now that i work in a *($%^&* office with !@#$ boss well i tend to give in and eat one restaurant meal per day and it DOES get my tinnitus going.. but then the rest of the day i am very careful.. so these days maybe 1/4 of the time i have a very very low t.. but really.. i eat it twice or lord.. three days in a row.. especially the beef. or anything wendy's.. bam... my whole head is a fricking ringing pure-tone EEEEE mess again... i hate it....
i swear to god.. i can hardly pick up anything in the grocery store that does not say "contains suphites" .. even this 1 miserable wine cooler i got for my lonely NY eve!! Clearly says on the side "contains suplphies".. even my crackers...
so keep it to 1 cooler for example.... but i think sulphites are a low-t problem... it's the glutmates and nitres that my suspicion is the worst.. or maybe just the level of these items.. that much i can't figure out..
However.. i am going to try to buy pure chemicals.. of each.. and try a small dose of each.. and take the acid test.. i don't think there's any other way of really knowing for sure exactly which are the worst but from my meat-sensitivity my father who is in the business figered nitrates, saying they are all bad for us but nitrates are by far the worst and have been considered for bans.
Oh wait... there's a forum for that.
Fish - sauted, baked or anything but deep fried.
Chicken - buy the organic, cage free. It really makes a difference in taste and quality.
Organic fruits and vegetables.
Legumes
Tofu
As Neilster said, NO fast food. Really.
I hope this helps!
