Hi, it has been 16 months now that I have been wearing the maskers. They were fitted for me by my audiologist Dr. Ann Wolliams here in Calgary. She promised me gradual relief from the Tinnitus. I had tested at the catastrophic level when I went in to see her. My tinnitus started august 1, 2011. It turned my entire life upside down. I spent months going to doctors, trying different treatments and spending thousand of dollars. This crisis was insignificant compared to what happened next. A mothers worst nightmare came true. I lost my daughter ( who was struggling with fibermyalgia) six months after the Tinnitus hit. I spent many months after that not knowing if I could even make it to the end of the day. I felt my life was over. In January 2012 I got maskers and wore them 24/7. I did not get any relief from the T for many months then one day I went an entire day with the T at about a 2 out of 10. That small bit of hope helped me so much. I decided from then on to work on getting lots of rest, concentrating on stress reduction and getting healthy physically and emotionally. I also read everything I could get my hands on about cognitive behavior therapy. Then six weeks later I experienced 2 days in a week of relief. By January it moved up to 3 days in a week. It was like a miracle ! It then moved up to 4 days in a week. I kept daily records of what I was doing, what I was taking for medicine, how much fitness etc. and most importantly what my mood was. This week for the first time ever I hit 5 good days in the week. When I think about it I am afraid something may go wrong again but so far so good. It saddens me so much when I see what a terrible condition this is and how it affects so many people. I am grateful for every quiet day and pray that all of us will find relief from the Tinnitus. This site has given me hope when I needed it most. I got frightened when I read the despair that some of us experience but there was always someone to give kind words of encouragement. You have no idea how helpful that is for those of us who are a bit silent out here and do not post much but are here regardless..
