I think therapy is a good idea. I used to see a doctor about T every month and I always felt so much better during the visits. I've also done the tinnitus support groups and they have helped a little. I was looking around and found this website. I think this is a counselor who specializes in tinnitus in your area. The service isn't cheap but maybe insurance will pay for some of it.

Thanks BobsDream, I took a workshop with soulspring and in fact am going to call them next week for one on one. The group was large and I found that not to be personalized. The Calgary Tinnitus Support Group had the facilitator retire. They have books that can be checked out but reading about Tinnitus is not enough. Seeing a therapist will help to relieve some of your anxiety about your tinnitus. I just recently went to an audiologist who specializes in TRT therapy and he explained to me that when my limbic system is way off do to stress that it can cause a spike in the sound you are hearing. So he suggested that I go and purchase maskers that have nature sounds such as rain that is a constant sound with no breaks for the evening. I also need to find ways to relax and take time for myself and learn that it is just a sound. I also qualified for TRT therapy which is somewhat expensive at this time. So when my fear starts to take over I go for walks,take a hot bath, read the bible and pray to try to keep my stress and anxiety down it seems to work for me.

I am using hearing aids with maskers. Sometimes my brain just cannot stand having 2 noises going at the same time. Then i take them out, then i put them back in again. I don't know how long it will be before i actually get into the therapist so will just keep doing what i am doing. The ENT cautioned me not to take the Atavan as it is very addictive. I had stopped working but need to go back to it. I am in sales so will try to see if that helps by keeping myself occupied as long as i can. Maybe it will distract me also.

Are they in the canal, or around the ear, CIC or RIC

Hi Danie, my hearing aids with maskers are Phonax. Apparently most hearing aids now come with the maskers. The big part of the hearing aid is behind the ear with transparent tube going into the ear. At the end of it is the part that makes the masking sound. It is effective only some of the time as my T can be much louder than the sound. If i keep pushing the masking sound up - within a short time it is so unbearable that i turn it off. How are you doing?

I've had tinnitus for many years - as long as I can remember, but only recently has it gotten very loud and I want to rip my head off. Coincidentally, it got much worse after getting a hearing test. I'm desparately trying to find relief, and for the past three days there are none. It's non-stop noise in my head. I can't sleep. I'm currently seeing a therapist for other issues, so I will talk to her about it. I'm also looking at noise cancelling hearing aids. I wish I could be more helpful - I'm new to this forum and seeking for help myself.

Hello NoiseHate, I am very sorry for the noise. I wish there was something to make the really noise days diminish a bit somehow.
I made mine worse recently by going to a place where they did a sound bath..It was a bunch of bowls that this guy played.The sound filled the room and the decibels were very high. I was afraid to leave as we were told to not make any disturbance. In hindsite I should have walked out as fast as my legs could carry me. t has spiked since then, up last night till I took a sleeping pill. I have tickets for this Sunday coming for a concert of an artist I love, I have made the decision to give the tickets away ! I am not taking another chance on a loud event EVER !!!

The TMS has not worked out for me, as of yet.

The Dr.,, wanted some time off to re-think another approach.

It looks like I won't be starting back up until Sept 2014.

Hi dgn58, I am so disappointed for you. I got back on the computer to see if TMS has worked for anyone. In fact it has but it did not say who the doctor was that did it. I will keep checking. I will go to the psychologist in April. September isn't all that far away. Maybe this time it will be better. With me, i have a low T day and my brain enjoys the quiet but next morning its like back to its loud hissing self...I don't feel in control at all. :( On the good side, we are still here - still working at it. And spring is almost here, i went out and bought a small greenhouse to give myself a bit of an outdoor hobby. Take care, rose

check your meds for side effects ... coffee , salt chocolate etc etc cause ringing ...
