Hey i drop in once a while here because i was suicidal from tinnitus a few years back but got hold of it... today... silence! Unless i eat the wrong thing that is.
For me it was and still is preservative-dependent... and when i say dependent I mean if I were to eat the way i used to, without reading ingredients, right now my head, shoulders, ears, and entire body would be buzzing so loud I'd be willing to release by own guillotine.
But? Silence! ahhhhh...
OK here's what I did... I stopped eating everything. Literally. I stopped eating everything other than pure apple juice, no preservatives, and chicken, no sauce. For about two months maybe...
It took at least a month for the ringing to sort of begin to show promise it was subsiding... i slowly added foods one by one... and when I hit nitrate-laden foods my ears went BANANAS.. CRAZY.. it was the first real clue.
Now I avoid nitrates, phosphates, glutemates, salicytates and sulfites!!!
They are in almost EVERYTHING... so i cannot completely avoid them.. but i limit them to perhaps one item per day.. and i remain very aware of what my ears react to.
Here is a crazy fact for me: I can eat McDonalds and Burger Kind and my ears act up.. but just for a few hours and nothing deadly.. one ear.. low buzzy ring...
BUT... I eat ONE Wendy's burger?!!? Forget about it... I'm looking at ONE COMPLETE WEEK of near-suicidal level ringing in my head... even stranger? Coffee from Tim Hortons, which is connected in Canada to Wendy's.... ONE COFFEE!!?!? 2-3 Days of misery.
Perhaps today I will finally investigate WTF they put in their food because of all the fast-food in which nutrirents and preservatives are made public... Wendy's and Tim Hortons for me are the WORST.... my ears just go crazy when i touch them. And no I'm not crazy.. its been almost 5 years of testing and trying and suffering.. i know what triggers and what doesn't.. and to what level.. and for how long...
sugar.. salt.. yeah they get my ears going.. but again.. nothing like my original tinnitus where I wanted to die.. something much more relaxing... one tone... no volume changes.. no multi-noise insanity... especially since i know it will be gone in hours, it doesn't bother me one bit at all anymore.
TRY IT for christ's sake i can't believe how many people complain but never take my advice.. why would i lie.. i took a year off work to figure it out... which i knew there had to be answer otherwise it would have always been the same day-to-day but i remember it was changing in character from morning until ngiht.... it was traumatic to say the least.

I guess my ears will be a roller coaster unless I cut back on everything like you did, which I don't wish to do. I just learn to live with the t, as my useless ENT prescribed. Hey many people have some medical issue and this happens to be mine. I'll plow my way through those difficult days and be thankful for the better days.

Food matters to some and they can find great relief through abstaining from certain foods. It is trial and error and doesn't work for everyone. I get no relief from abstaining from foods. Many do, I hope you can figure out if food affects your tinnitus.
