Welcome.although none of us really want to be here. I don't post very often but I always feel supported and comforted when I drop in to the group. Sorry you have the hissing. My tinnitus is a sort of hissing too, not actually a ringing..hard to describe. I am also in my 70s (older than you) but I have had mild tinnitus since I was in my 40s. Only in the past few years has it gotten loud enough to really be a bother.
I hope yours will fade out again. Sounds like you have fought enough health battles!

So sorry to read about all your health issues and to add the Tinnitus to the mix, ouch! Though I'm glad to read that the HCV is cured and RA in remission, it always seems it's a battle to stay healthy. I suffer from an early onset of arthritis but am combating by avoiding certain foods and work out when I'm not in pain. I have been hearing impaired all my life so have had tinnitus off and on over many years. I have a history of extreme allergies to conventional medicine, I am allergic to all forms of anti-inflammatory and pain reliever medications. I haven't decided if that is a blessing or a curse.

Lately, I have been in a tinnitus "flare" (for over a year now) and the ringing is like a loud microphone feedback that screams non-stop in both of my ears. I have been to several ENTs who all tell me that the nerves in my ears are dying and there is nothing that can be done to stop it. They tell me that as the nerves die, the ringing gets louder then fade along with the hearing. I am only 59 years old and there is a good chance that I will be deaf by the time I reach 62-63 years old.

Thus I suffer and wait as I do not yet qualify for cochlear implants. I have 80% loss in my right ear and 60% loss in my left ear and it is not consider a disability as I have excellent lip reading skills intact. I am constantly amazed at the lack of empathy by doctors and insurance companies that are paid to provide what I need, yet they find ways to either deny me coverage or just throw their hands up saying they can't help me. I am continuing my search for a doctor that cares and will help me battle with my insurance company to provide coverage for the medications that I can take and provide the care I need to stay healthy.

Hoping your tinnitus is only a flare and will end soon.

My noise is zinging. Sometimes high zings, most times moderate constant zings that my brain habituated. If I get to hissing, it would be a blissfully day because hissing is lowered than zings.

My boyfriend experienced similar symptoms and he could hear the buzzing sound of wind whenever he cleans his earwax. He took a hearing test in Toronto ( https://www.hearingsolutions.ca/services/hearing-evaluation ) and got his ears checked. It was actually an ear infection which he thought was tinnitus. The buzzing sound problem disappeared within a week.
