We're going to solve this thing folks, i don't so much hope as expect it as 100% absolute fact our little group here will figure out the answer by, say, next June latest.
Google 'Gamers solve molecular puzzle that baffled scientists' and you'll know we as a group have infinite more power than any single or team of scientists did in the past who researched hearing loss/tinnitus.
We have:
1) instant sharing of information
2) access to the entire web's information
3) mass trials we can do virtually from home without gov't OK
4) tons of chemicals / herb etc. we can buy from our home nowadays
5) the audiovisual power of our computers to aid in program design
That's more power than a bunch of corporate-sponsored nerds who don't even have tinnitus sitting in a lab from 9-5 working on something they know damned well will not win them any Nobel prizes.
I'll be at the Chinese herbal store before this weekend.... my city has tons of real authentic ones in the Chinatown. This game is ON my friends.
p.s. if the Chinese don't do it, we've still got the hindus, budhists, natives, and more.

I will get back to reading the rest of this in time, seems interesting. I think the more you can learn and the more you seek to do for yourself, the better. It's all good.

From what I read, if your tinnitus is due to noise exposure, then there's nothing much to be done, other than to avoid further loud noises and perhaps headphones (sleeping with ear plugs or avoid all noise altogether would be a bad idea).
Then there are other cases. For instance an ear infection. Tinnitus could abate or even disappear within months or a year after the treatment (which doesn't involve Chinese herbs).
