If you get the aids do you have a trial period? All I can say is that I thought my eyesight was perfect until I went to the eye doctor and almost fell over when she put a pair of glasses on me and I could see across the street. We sort of get used to what we have and don't even realize we may be losing sight or hearing. I've gone to an audiologist , one of many, for T and he wished I had hearing loss as then he felt he could help me so maybe hearing aids would help you with T.

I was told I also have moderate hearing loss along with tinnitus . I did try hearing aids, because like you I was told it might diminish my tinnitus, but all they did is make everthing INCLUDING my tinnitus LOUDER!! If you do decide to try hearing aids go to an audiologist that will let you try them for 30 to 60 days. Also tried hearing maskers, unfortunately all they did was put another noise in my ears, which I do not need. Good Luck

Sometimes, even all the time it's best to grin and bear it. You (I) even get used to "eeeeeee" so it's not such a big intrusion because so many other things really matter so much more. I have the hearing aids and the hearing aid maskers and for too long of a time I was too dependent on them. They've been in a drawer since this past Christmas. I have high pitch hearing loss due to loud noise exposure and I can hear my tinnitus with my feet in the ocean while whistling show tunes while the ice cream man is ringing the bell. I don't mind saying "what" no more than others mind repeating themselves and peace of mind is possible with smoke alarms going of relentlessly in your head. Is a real invisible challenge better than no challenge? Probably yes, but what choice is there...let's persevere (been doing it thousands of days and counting) For me the hearing aides helped me hear better but not enough and the white noise generators eventually became a crutch and most long termers would agree. So best I can offer is grin and bear it it and my grin is not insincere...

If you are not all that bothered by your T, then it isn't worth the $ for you to buy aids. I, however, am greatly bothered by my T (loud, shrill, screeching--moves around from ear to ear to brain with various tones of hisses, whines, and shrill electrical buzzes). If aids could help me get rid of that, it would be well worth the money to me. And personally, I like having white noise mixed in with my T; it helps me function better. I can still hear the T, but the white noise is soothing. (I walk with a cane--I can walk without it, but it is very difficult. The cane helps me function better in daily life. I think of the white noise the same way--a piece of "equipment" that makes my life better. Just like my eyeglasses.)

I agree with Sue--if you think it MIGHT be worth the $ to have less T and have the option to have white noise when you want it, ask for a 30-day trial and see if it helps. I know the Widex Zens have greatly helped others on this site...

McMurdo, tor t and mine sound llike a great match.. maybe they can go out together sometime, and leave us alone!.. Mine is super shrill, goes from right to both, in the middle, sometimes more left, and is seldom easy to mask due to the ultra high pitch I perceive, about 9-10 K... It is VERY tough to mask except with jangly bright music with lots of twangy guitars and jangly cymbals
So, yes mine is intrusive and obnoxious, but i have determined to NOT cave in to it. I hate it, but no longer fear it.. My limbic system has started to loosen the death grip it had on my emotions the first 6 weeks... I am now 2 months into this debacle.
I can use my $10 mp3 player and $10 ear buds for all the masking or white noise I can handle...The mp3 player has an FM radio,, Put the buds in, put the radio in between stations.. Presto. instant "white noise generator".. Cost?... $20.
again, although I do have some hearing loss, I am comfortable talking on a cell phone in either ear, and there is no problem in crowds, or in low volume one on one situations.. I don't hear like a 20 year old, but most people never know I have any hearing loss at all... All 3 hearing tests I have taken in the last few months have showen almost perfect word recognition.. The lowest score was 96% correct, which is quite good.. Some of those words are piped in at very low volume...
If I have to deal with T , I have to deal.. I just am NOT that worried about the hearing part of the equation.. However, I WILL spend the big bucks if the aids help me perceive the T less.. If they are just going to boost hearing which is already satisfactory for my life situation, I am really doubtfull.. I would HATE to spend $6-7K and put an expensive set of Widex in a drawer. Not sure which way to go... However, I am leaning in the direction of giving this more time and more thought, before blowing a fortune.... My school bus gets SO loud I have to use ear plugs... Aids my even exacerbate the problem... .. Guess I am going t have to "play it by ear"... Get it?... I said "play it by ear"... thats funny right? : > ) bob
