Yes, I wear musican's ear plugs I would not travel without them.
You can get three different filters with them, a 9, a 15, and a 25. The 25 lets less noise in.

These can be found at your audiologists office. They are fitted to you.

And just to let you know, the noise will come down. This did happen to me before, before the earplugs.

Thank you so much Kasandra. Yes the noise did come down but it took quite some time. A very uncomfortable time while waiting. I will definately give them a try. Does it have any effect on how your ears adjust to the change in air pressure? My T is in both ears & classed as severe so obviously will do anything to stop it from getting worse.

I always wear ear plugs when flying, though I try to avoid propeller planes. Even so, the tinnitus can feel temporarily worse after the flight.

I also often feel pain due to the pressure change when the plane is going in for landing. The last couple of flights I've tried the "Ear Planes" ear plugs which are supposed to help even out the pressure. I can't say they've done much for me. The Ear Planes are kind of painful to wear, so I use regular foam ear plugs for most of the flight.

I recently found out about the Eytomic High-Fidelity Ear Plugs. They're like a high-end ear plug that's not supposed to make everything sounds muffled, like the foam ear plugs do. I have yet to try them on a flight, but my audiologist was very familiar with them and Eytomic products in general.

I also bring Afrin nose spray that I use before the landing. I've been told by my ENT and audiologist that the nose spray can help with the pressure changes.

Just wanted to say I have flown many times since I got T and have never had any long lasting increase in volume....I find the apprehension is far worse than the actually flight itself. I do wear foam plugs though throughout, and took some decongestants (just over the counter sudafed stuff) before hand last time and found all was well......also avoid sitting by the wings, it is much quieter right at the back or front of the plane x Don't let it stop you seeing your family!

Have flown four times in the past month and each time I perceived a rise in the volume and intensity of my T. However, after a few days it subsided. I don't actually believe it's the flying that affects it, however; I really do think it's the stress of thinking that the T may be affected. When flying, everyone's ears are impacted in some way, and I believe that if you have T, you think quite naturally that the T will become more intrusive. But I think it's an issue of perception rather than anything else.

sorry have no idea on how to help... but i am worried about the same thing.. i want to travel after college and sacred to bc of my ears... i CANT wear earplugs though. they hurt my ears so much worse. so i dont think this traveling will happen bc of T. But i also have issues in the car with my ears when the windows are down
i hate having T
