I was wondering if it is normal to sometimes feel pressure and fullness in the ears as a result of having Tinnitus. I read somewhere that this may be a sign that you are losing your hearing and you should see a ENT asap if you have these symptoms as they sometimes treat this with steroids, etc. I do have an appointment with an ENT that is on the ATA list, but can't get in to see him for a few weeks. I do have bad allergies and they have been acting up lately with all the pollen, etc. I wonder if other people have these symptoms at all. Is this something that I should be alarmed about?

Hi April, may I just ask if you any Hyperacusis (amplification of sound)

It's just that when I mentioned this symptom before on one of the other forums, everyone said that the pressure and fullness was to do with Hyperacusis. I did have H at the begining but it has become a lot less of a problem lately and strangely enough, I very rarely get the fullness and pressure feeling now. I used to get a lot of ear ache as well at the same time.

However, if you have no Hyperacusis then it could perhaps be to do with the allergies. If your eustacheon tubes become blocked then that can feel like pressure in the ear. Perhaps a good nasal spray would work. I just left mine alone, tried not to worry about it too much and it cleared up on it's own.

My T is intermittent and on the worst days I definitely feel this pressure and fullness that you are alluding to. It's as if there is a pressure change similar to the occurance upon changing elevation in an airplane. Unfortuntely this pressure doesn't alleviate itself until the following day whereupon my T isn't causing that much of a problem for me.

April you may have discovered a fascinating correlation between the pressure within the ear and the T that may be a reaction from it. It seems to me (at least for some people) that this pressure and sense of fullness should be medically treatable therefore alleviated the symptoms of T.

Hey if you don't mine at your appointment, please discuss this with the ENT. I don't have allergies nor have I experienced any long-term pressure or fullness previously.

I would be extremely grateful of any knowledge that you may forward regarding this as well as any avaiable treatment recommended.

April, I have been having the same problems lately. So I went to my ENT yesterday. He recommended that I lower my salt intake and stay away from fast foods . This will alleviate the pressure and fullness in the ear.

Thanks-big time. I am going to make a concerted effort to follow this advise. I'll let you know if it alleviates the pressure and fullness in the ear.

Thank you for the replies. I do believe that I have Hyperacusis, but have not been diagnosed for it. I also have very bad allergies that have been awful this year, so I don't really know which of these is causing the pressure or fullness. I will definitely share what the ENT says to me next week. I am hoping that he will be somewhat helpful as he is on the ATA list. I am also going to cut back on salt to see if this helps. Thanks for this tip Biggie Lou, as this feeling of pressure is so annoying.
