A personal update on my tinnitus
LindaPatricia
Hello everyone,
Sorry I have been absent from posting lately, hoping everyone is having a nice summer, trying to stay cool in this heat!
As most of you know I woke up one day in March 2011 with an unusal loud hiss/ringing in my ears. I have always had a mild ringing, on and off, but not to that degree.
Since I have sought out some information on tinnitus from this group, as well as doctors, learned a great deal, but still have no definite reason for the sudden tinnitus that accured 4 months ago and I still experience.
Since, I am happy to say all though I still experience the tinnitus I have somehow adapted to the rining, or it has become a bit better, I am not really sure, odd but true. Odd that I am not sure if I am just used to it, or it is better.
The first few days then weeks, I thought about my ringing ears constantly, listened for it always..... and changed my eating habits to try to reduce the ringing.
In doing so I have also lost 30 lbs now, lowered my BP, and started vitamin D, since that was determined very low.
I drink lots of water, walk daily and eat only healthy foods.
It took lots of changing of bad habits, but I made up my mind to eat healthy and walk daily to lose some weight and be more healthy for more reasons then just reducing or curing my T.
I am not paying, or going to a gym, although I do think for some that can afford that, or like that a good idea.
I just got educatinal food and health books, bought good sneakers and try to walk and ride my bike daily.
In addition I cleaned my frig and cabinets organizing them to be able to reach for healthy snacks and treats at all times.
When I shop I read all the labels, and try to eat fresh fruit, veggies, and eat low fats day by day, and have changed all my cooking options.
I do feel much better, more energy, feel less depressed, less anxious and my tinnitus appears to be less especially during the day.
At times I do not even remember I have ringing in my ears sicne it is at bay most of the time.
I do still have the unusal loud ringing upon awakening, but even that I do not think about it as much and it seems to reduce soon after I am up. But id did always reduce from the begining.
So, I am not sure if my T is same, or I am used to it, or it is possibly getting better.
I honestly think it might be a bit better, since I am not distracted by it all the time, the louder odd nosies through out the day seem to be on the most part gone.
Or I am not aware of them, just not sure.
Night time while watching TV I do not seem to hear my T, and while busy during the day also do not appear to notice it. If I stop and listen, I at times hear some, but since I always have had some T., not sure if I might have always had that, and the worsened T., in March might be getting better...Aaaaaa, who knows?
Night time was never a huge issue with me though, but I did notice it in March at night, much more than presently.
I still do not understand why I suddenly woke up with the loud ringing in my ears that day in March, or why I still to date wake up wiit ringing in my ears, then it tends to go down after I am up for a while.
This has been unexplained to me, and my research has not revealed any explanations to that phenomenon either.
My only ideas are, I ate an extremely salty diet of corn beef the night before, I was under stress, I had a migraine two days before, but I have had migraines for years as such, ate salty meals before of course, and have had stress on and off too, so????
Also, I took aspirin, for 8 years, sometimes two a day for neuropathy.
I have since reduced the aspirin down, eliminated all salt, and my stress is a bit less, but still the "sudden" unset of worse T., is what puzzles me????
Since T., appears to come about from more than one possible medical/medicine contributers, in addition to the brain is involed, it becomes a sincerely complex condition to determine the exact cause for many, my opinion anyway.
At any rate some things that appear to distract me from my T., is shopping, working on a project, plays, musicals, and water falling and playing with my grandson.
Things that appear to worsen my T, appear to be a poor salty high fat diet, being hungry, wind blowing through the windows while driving in the car, being very overtired, working out to vigerously, and to date I still always have T, after just waking up, even after a nap.
I am not as anxious about the T., although it still is a condition that I have and if I think about it, listen for it, it is not pleasant and I wish I knew the cause.

I have a friend here with neuropathy and T! I always wondered if her problems two were connected, esp since her neuropathy is in her neck...
Judy, do you have worse ringing when you have migraines? It seems that if the ringing was directly connected to migraines the ringing would reduce after the migraine went away. But then, migraines do affect the brains chemistry and blood vessels so maybe other symptoms, such as ringing ears could be present even when there is not migraine pain. Its all so very complex isn't it? It can make one crazy trying to pin point the cause of unkwown ringing ears!
Dlitz, so sorry to hear of your situation and how debilitating your new onset of ringing ears is for you. I hope since your post your ear ringing has calmed down a bit and your work is not jerpordized from being unable to work. My ringing too, just started out of the blue, no sure reason why.
Pat, I do not think my tinnitus is connected to my neuropathy since my neuorpathy is in my feet, thats a long way from my ears...(chuckle) I have had neuropathy for 8 years now and had no ringing ears until last March.
In addition I saw my neuro two months ago for the ear ringing, she did not mention any connection between the two.
Starlet1969, even when my T was more so at bay I did still wake up with it, and have some ssssss, ups and down volume...but I did start to carry on with less worry.
Yes it was scary when I first had the ringing, more scary that it did not go away.
I am sorry to say, I had a flare up last Thursday, no apparent reason though, so a bit discouraged, angry too. I woke up with my usual hissing, but then a loud ring in my left ear, now since loud hissing all day in my right. Errrrrrrr. I could cry! Why it came back so bad, who knows, doing all the right things I thought, but at least my other parts are getting healthy from my life style changes.
McMurdo, Funny how my T is loud in the morning, and lessens during the day. I guess it some ways we are all the same with T, as well as different.
Thanks again.
