I wouldn't take a drug that has suicide listed as a potential side effect

I heard they do. I was prescribed them in the beginning of my t journey but I was too afraid to take them because tinnitus was a potential side-effect. I wasn't concerned about suicide as a side effect as I was already contemplating that about a month into T.

The Oregon State Research Center stated to me that anti depressants could indeed make the t. worse. And they recommended the older ones instead. Not sure why, like Nortriptiline.

I never did try them as they also had many side effects.

Elavil will not hurt you. All the clinics I have been to, had recommended Elavil For Tinnitus, and sleep.

Don't go over 50 mg.

Im hesitant about SSRI's because studies have shown that they arent that effective in mild to moderate depression. Why do you think they add ABILIFY to an anti-depressant? Neil Bauman, Ph.D. at the Center for Hearing Loss Help lists SSRI's as ototoxic to the ears. Once I stopped it, stomach problem went away. I get concerned that drugs will only worse tinnitus, I think we all fear that at one time or another. Ive gone through a period of time where the doctor would prescribe something and my tinnitus would go up, and I would stop it thinking that that drug was worsening my tinnitus because it would go back down upon stopping the medication. But another side to that is how do you know that your tinnitus isnt going up regardless of the drug all by itself and has nothing to do with the drug and went back down on its own naturally. Case in point...I started progesterone cream 200 mg. I took it starting 12/9/11. I noticed an increase in my tinnitus. I stopped it on 1/20/12 and my tinnitus went low for 4 days. But then it went back up for 4 days and I wasnt on the progesterone. So it is really hard to determine when you take a pill if its actually the pill or your own tinnitus just doing it's thing. I just believe less is more right now. I take Klonopin, a low dose for anxiety with tinnitus and for anxiety in menopause. I also take a low dose of Amitriptyline, an older tricyclic antidepressant for sleep. It's a low dose because most people who take it for depression take 100-150 mg. It helps with headaches in menopause too. I just find myelf grappling with taking something that might help me to taking something that might cause tinnitus to worse. Its a vicious cycle I have to come to grips with. I figure if I get off my Klonopin and Amitriptyline and see how my tinnitus does AT THE LEAST I will know that my tinnitus is doing what it does and not caused by a medication. But then again, coming off medications like Klonopin can cause tinnitus, so see what I mean? Vicious cycle indeed. Arrgh.

Elavil helps with sleep. I am sure if it helpe lower my Tinnitus.

Most the clinics I have been to strongly believe it can lower your Tinnitus.

It also good for other things as well. Also Remeron, is another drug in the same class, that will help you sleep, and possibly lower your Tinnitus.

My tinnitus has improved throughout last year.

And if you take no more than 50mg, it will not effect you for dealing with depression.

People who are Bipolar 2 and mistakenly diagnosed with depression may experiance negative mania eppisode when taking anti-depressants. That would be the exact opposite of what is expected to happen and may be one of the causes for sucide while on these drugs.

Lamictal seems to have the same effect on me. It's not an SSRI though. I've taken several SSRI's and none of them seemed to help me.
