I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

What does that say about those of us who are here???
Maybe that we are so successful at managing our time that we have time to hang out here!
I think there has to be a balance between structure and flexibility. We tried to build in routines like going to the library on a certain day, for instance, but have enough flexibility that we wouldn't feel compelled to stick with that day if the weather was really yucky.
One thing we did that worked really well was to "give" each child one day of the week to be "theirs". Basically, what that meant was that if it was a certain child's day, they got to be first going into the house once I'd unlocked the door, and got to pick what we'd have for supper that night, and choose what game we would play that evening. Of course, it also meant that they were Mom's special helper that day, for things like setting the table, doing the dishes, feeding the animals, sweeping the kitchen, folding the towels, etc.! This minimized potential conflicts four days of the week--though I sometimes wished I'd had three more kids to cover the rest of the week!
Another thing we did was to buy four packs of sugar-free gum on grocery day (four different flavors), and the one with the cleanest room by suppertime that day got first pick, second cleanest room chose second, and so on. It was a routine in that we all knew the drill, rooms would be clean heading into the weekend (when we were likely to have visitors), and what they never knew was that I probably would have bought them a sugarless gum treat every grocery day anyways!
Some routines worked for us, but I always envied those moms who could institute nap- or quiet-time...and know exactly when that would be each day!
Looking back on it now, though, we all survived and I think the kids benefitted from having a relatively sane and relaxed Mom who wasn't always watching the clock and fussing about everything.
Just curious...did your doc give you specific ideas that they felt would be helpful?
