That was a song I loved when I was a kid and now it's happened in my front yard. One of four has flown the coup. I saw it standing on the edge of the nest it shared with its three siblings. Yes, it was so crowded in there it simply had to go. It had to bid farewell to the others.
I came outside to make its photo and that must of spooked it. It was perched on the edge of the nest just looking at me and wondering "WTF?"
It went down to the ground and my dog lurched for it. It then made a sort of dash across the yard, my dog in pursuit. "Stop" I yelled at my mutt. The little bird sort of flapped its wings and got airborne some -- lifting itself a few inches -- two or three at the most -- off the ground. It scurried across the street and into a neighboring yard, all the while a mama or papa robin cheering it on with chirps of support. "YES YOU CAN" it chirped to the baby.
The baby was scared but carried on. We went for our walk.
I peered in the nest and three little birds peered back. They are chirping a little outside my window. I think they have another night's stay in the cozy crowded nest.
all i needed was a description of your mut...
