I don't know. Did your doctor discuss any further steps with you?
I was told that if they found cancer, that they would go back for a second operation and take out the second side of the thryoid. I opted for them (if he thought it even looked like cancer- and I already had severe hashimotos) to take the whole thing. Which he did.
And because you are not on any pills yet, you would be able to do a radiation pill. Learn about that on Thyca.org. I did the low iodine diet- which was a pain, but not impossible, before hand.
You will have to re-educate me to what all of this means again. Sorry I can't be of more help. Thank goodness your appointment is coming up.

Have you had the Radiation Iodine Pill yet? Has your dr set up that time frame for you yet? When you had surgery, did they remove all your thyroid? Or just the half that had the cancer? Please don't stress yet. Possibly your number are still high due to the fact you have thyca, but there is a superb chance that when you have the RAI, your numbers will begin to fall. It will take some time, but don't get anxious yet.
Has the dr started you on the replacement meds, ie Synthroid?
I recommend as blueviolet does, read, read, read. This way you are informed and will know what questions to ask your dr. I also recommend Dr. Kenneth Ains' book, "the Total Thyroid Book". Very informative, very comprehensive for answering questions you may not even know to ask.
The low iodine diet is a hassle, but well worth the alternative, so don't be afraid to ask your questions. There is wonderful support to be had on this site, and that helps thru the dark nights.

I just read your other post, as the dr only took one half the thyroid, you may have to have the other side removed, to facilitate the RAI when you have it.
That is what happened to me, I had to have two surgeries to remove all my thyroid.
Make sure he doesn't remove your para thyroid glands, that can be a real hassle for you in the long run. If your dr says he has to remove them along with your remaining thyroid gland, get another dr who will operate around your remaining paras. These little glands control your blood calcium and you need them for the rest of tour life and for your all over health.

I had whole Thyroid taken out almost 18 years ago next month & then years later had to have Thymus taken out my numbers have never been right unless I was put in hospital for a whole week mine are suppose to be 5 or below & I'm still clear up in the 80's range.

I really was not aware of how sensitive it could be after surgery, before RAI, and/or with remaining thyroid tissue.

I went down to Jefferson Hospital today and saw the surgeon who checked my incision and answered some questions like the high thyroglobulin and he said that is to be expected because of surgery. Said my one number was normal but little high will watch to see if it goes up or down. After meeting with him i went over to the Endo office for a 820 meeting with him and he is part of thyroid team. He wants me back in two months and Sharon Segal will do another ultra sound and he gave me blood test prescription to see how that is going its the same set i just had. So all told things went better than expected i still feel a little tired but that is better than a week ago so maybe that is coming around.

I am glad they are so on top of things. It does seem the numbers are high, right after surgery this seems ok....
just remember, it isn't always numbers it is how you feel.

Yes i know i still feel somewhat shaky and tired we shall see and if it gets bad i will call the doctor and see what he says. Its like a team down there i see the surgeon, endo and the radiologist today only surgeon and endo. It amazing i tend to swing back and forth with symptoms
