Thank-you. The surgery went well. The frozen section showed no cancer. They are doing further pathological exams on it, but the doc seems confidant that it is benign. I will know for certain by early next week. I was sure it was going to be cancer, so am very relieved.

The doctor took out half my thyroid. I have a 5-6 inch incision across my lower neck. The pain was a little worse than I expected, but they kept me overnight and on Demerol, IV, so not bad. There was swelling that seemed to happen all of a sudden. It caused hard lumps to form above the incision, but nothing dangerous. Just caused a lot of pressure. Today is day 3 and I slept until 5:30, before needing a pain pill. Night before it was 3:00 am, so getting better.

One of the hardest parts is trying to get comfortable. Have to use pillows and raise up. Sleep on my back. That should improve soon too.

The little drain tube will come out on Monday, so it is all going well. So to those that need surgery, don't fret. It isn't too bad.

You will feel so much better when the drain is out! I only had mine in for two or three days...i think it was gone by the time I left the hospital...but everyone is different.

New to this post, and it was a relief to read that you came through everything better than you expected. I'm still in the 'testing' phase, and for myself, having more medical knowledge and background than the average 'joe' or 'jane' doesn't make it less worrisome when they want to cut on you yourself.
