So, at five weeks after my surgery, I am starting to get back into a semblance of normal - for me - activity. I have noticed, quite unhappily two things.
1) I wheeze like an asmatic who is about to die at the drop of a hat. Five minutes of bending over and picking up laundry off the floor will leave me leaning against something for up to ten minutes while I try to catch my breath and my family scrambling about thinking I am about to die.
2) The second thing is that that same five minutes of picking up laundry, in a room with the air conditioner running, set to 63 degrees, will leave me bathed in sweat. It will be dripping off my forehead and my T-shirt will be damp to the touch for about the next hour. I litterally continue to sweat for about 30 minutes AFTER I have sat back down.
Now I figure the wheezing is because I have a paralized vocal cord and my breathing has not gotten any easier since the surgery. I also still asperiate the occasional swallow of liquid strait into my lungs.
But startign one load of laundry should not leave me using a towel for the sweat - at least not in my mind.
Anyone else have this happen? Or am I just that weird?
I am on a T3 hormone once a day pending RAI. I am also, in spite of having lost 50 pounds since Jan, still am packing about an extra 80 to 100 pounds - but still losing weight at the rate of two or three pounds a week. (yeah, a bit more than is actually healthy)

I also had a paralyzed vocal chord. In my case, it's what lead doctors to suspect my thyroid and then the tests revealed the tumor. Mine went back to normal, miraculously, once my thyroid was removed (docs said it must have been putting pressure on the vocal chord nerve that was removed with my thyroid). while it was paralyzed, I was winded incredibly easily too. A small amount of exertion made me sound like I just ran a mile and had asthma.

I am 1 week from my 1 yr anniversary of my surgery and I am feeling quiet good. I wish I could lose the weight I have gained but that will come with time. I now only sweat in the morning...I know that is weird but by the time I arrive at work my clothes are damp. Prior to the TT I never sweated a day in my life so this is a new aspect of my life.
Are you having any treatment for your vocal cord? I had a medialization procedure done and that helped. I believe they only do that if they took out the vocal cord nerve.With the vocal cord open you do lose a lot of oxygen hence the low energy level.
Again I recommend you be patient with yourself. Others think this should be easy and it isn't.
