Thyroid Cancer Support Group
Thyroid cancer is cancer of the thyroid gland. There are four forms: papillary, follicular, medullary and anaplastic. If you or anyone you know and love is affected by thyroid cancer, join this community to lean on the support and experiences of others.
nodules can be cold or hot...good or bad. Some are just nothing at all. I had a needle biopsy, mine was indeterminite...I also had hashimotos. I opted for a partial thyroidectomy...and if they found cancer, take it all out. The doc found cancer, it was all out, my thyrogen level dropped for 6 weeks (one of the harder parts) and then I got a radiation pill...(don't believe all the crazy stories about that..go to thyca) and got on meds. it took a while to find the righ dosage (that was the hardest part...patience).
7 years out, my blood tests are all I need to find out if I am still ok. And these days you don't have to do the 6 weeks wait, you can get a shot...if your insurance will do it.
don't panic. learn about the 4 kinds. If you had one of the big bad two (not follicular or pappillary) you would already know it.
my nodule was 6 by 8 by 8 mm....encapsulated inside the thyroid.
the other thing i read once was that if everyone was examined after death, that a great number of men would be having undiagnoised prostate cancer, and people (more proportionately women) would be dying with (but not FROM) thryoid cancer. Some of it is so slow growing that they believe that we may be actually overtreating. Now as for me, if I have the big C, I want it out asap...but it is something to try to keep balance in your mind.
I hope that is of some help to you. let us know what happens. be well.
The needle biopsy didn't hurt, but it felt like someone was scratching my throat. Left a small bruise. I think they will decide to take it all out, and you will be the better for it...why be left wondering and waiting. That is just me, but I just wanted it all over and done with.
It is scary. Ask the questions you need to ask, or have someone go with you.
You are paying for their services, so make sure you feel comfortable with everything. It is scary, but it is being handled and taken care of and that is a good thing.
Be well, friend.
Years later another tumor grew in my neck, it was removed and RAI was done again. Now this is my third time but this one came with some friends in my hip and lung. I am currently on chemo tabs and am nearing remission, moral of the story is you can survive with Thyroid cancer for a long time.
Don't freak out, science has advanced so much that the treatments for Thyroid CA are wonderful compared to the options that were out there 21 years ago. Hey, good luck with your treatment Casey, not saying that it's Thyroid CA but just ready yourself for the possibility.
Keep us posted on your situation, good luck to you!
