So yesterday was my apt to go in and get my low dose of I-131 so they can do a full body scan on Monday for my RAI.

Now, my confidence in the hospital (VA) has not been so great of late, but I can't afford anything else so my options are, well, none. On Monday of last week I got a letter in the mail going over instructions that were told to my hubby over the phone a week and a half ago. The instructions said to stop taking my meds on that Friday, which I had done, and start my low iodine diet five days later... oh well that was timely information as we were under the impression to have started it on that Friday - ten days prior to recieving this lettter. Sigh, oh well.

I needed to get to the hospital early enough to stop by the lab and have a whole bunch of blood drawn before reporting to Nuclear Medicine at 1pm. Traffic going through downtown Seattle did not leave as much wiggle room as we had hoped for, but we actually had plently of time to find the lab, get the blood drawn, and reach Nuclear Medicine with ten minutes to space! Only to find the place entirly closed up????

OK, after about 15 minutes people started coming back from lunch and they put us (hubby and I ) into a room. At that point it occurs to them that, hey, our patient is female! After thirty minutes of my explaining that I don't have enough parts anymore for childbaring, we are sent BACK down two floors to the lab for a pregnancy test. Sigh.

Half an hour later we are back and they wander about staring at us until they decide to put us back in the exam room - to wait for the results which could take up to an hour. Finally, at 2:30pm, they decide I am not pregnant and they can proceed. The nurse straps into her lead lined suit and a Dr who mostly speaks English comes and tells us no information at all, but talks for a good fifteen minutes.

At that point, she opens a lead container, pulls out a small vial which has one pill in it, hands it to me with directions not to chew it or touch the pill with my fingers. Just as the nurse is dumping a pill into a pill cup from her heavy leadlined container.

At that point I handed the pill the Dr gave me BACK to the Dr while they both reread the labels to verify which pill I was supposed to take! Not surpising it was the nurse who had things right and the Dr who just assumed that because there was a canister, it must be for me!

So I swallowed the correct pill and they said, "OK, see you on Monday! Bye."

I am also assuming by the fact that I actually feel 100 times better after swallowing that pill than I did before that there are still Thyroid cells working in my body - which does not dode well for the dose I will have to take on Wednesday or how long I will need to be in isolation.
