I was diagnosed with Graves disease fall of 08. I had an ultrasound done and it showed 4 nodules, ranging from5 5mm to 1.1 cm. They haven't done a fna on them. I'm due for another ultrasound to check them soon. (anyone know what the good and bad medical terms are on the ultrasound reports?)
I still worry about the possibility of cancer. My grandmother had thyroid cancer (not sure of the type, still trying to find out - she passed many years ago). Also, just found out that the woman we bought our house from ( 1.5 years ago) just had a partial thyroidectomy in October, then they found out she had cancer, so they went back in November and removed the rest. I guess its just on my mind.
I have a tenderness on the left side of my neck. Its not really painful, just tender. I'm starting to wonder if its just in my head!
I guess I'm just worried.

Just so you know though when my endo did the FNA he told me 90% of cases the nodules are NOT cancer. I just ended up in the 10% that had cancer. So you have odds in your favor.
I had a thyroid scan and was later told I should have my left lobe containing the tumor removed. A week after surgery i was told the tumor was cancerous. It is now 2 weeks since the surgery and I am waiting for my call for my next surgery.
I wouldn't have found out about this cancer tumor unless I was persistant with the help of my family dr. I got a second opinion after seeing one encronologist for a year, I didn't feel right.
Please be persistant, it's your body and the dr's aren't always right!
